Question

I was out running in a nearby park and enjoying the weather today when I had the idea to host my son’s summer birthday at a public park. I’m assuming that’s an ok thing to do here, but wanted to get advice from some of you long-time residents. It’s typically not a crowded park and I visited the website and didn’t see any particular info. Any fees or restrictions that I should know about? (I came from out of state and feel like IL is particularly keen on fees and restrictions ).

I think you can rent the shelters out call the park district probably a fee lol and no alcohol

@guidance it’s good to reserve in case someone else does. Otherwise another person can show up and force you to move.

You can definitely rent them out through the park district! We did it for a baseball bbq a few years ago. There was definitely a fee, I wish I could remember how much!

I suggest calling park district and seeing if any activities for summer are being held at certain park. I know DP has a lot going on during summer. We had my baby shower during the summer time a few years back and certain dates were either booked already with other parties or DP had certain activities planned. So I say reserve space now if you can! Better now than being too late  have fun planning son’s birthday!

You do need to reserve the space if you want the tables. No alcohol or bounce houses are allowed. Dppd. org has all the fees and reservation information listed online.
