No Time-Ins and Time-Outs -- Here's Why We Don't Track Our Team's Time In The Office Whenever we turn on our Hiring Engine and applicants go through 5 or 6 different hoops before even getting interviewed. . we always get questions around our policy behind attendance. Not from the applicants -- but other business owners. They notice that we explicitly place that we don't check whenever someone comes in or leaves the office. We're asked -- how are you sure they're doing the work? How are you sure you're actually making the most out of what you're paying them? Our answer? It all boils down on how you want to build your business. For some, being very meticulous with tracking things like time pays off well. But for us, time and time again, we've seen that putting trust on your team is much better than any alternative. Sure, you're gonna get burned sometimes. You'll get someone who'll take advantage of that trust. Maybe even abuse it. Might even cause real damage in your business. But, the upside you'll get from the people who do respond well to an environment of trust is immeasurable. We've seen that for the right people, trust creates a sense of ownership on your team. (Something most agency owners struggle to have their VAs/team members step up on, would you agree? ) That sense of ownership translates to a stronger sense of initiative, growth, and overall -- they just give more shits. We trust that our team will get things done. They can work for an hour. 10 hours. We don't care. As long as they stay engaged with our team and maintain a level of cadence with their actions, we're happy. But here's the catch. You gotta make sure they're the right people. In our Hiring Engine, we HEAVILY screen for trust. This is the key part. If you don't do this, this entire thing won't work. It's why we go through 100 people before hiring 1 person in our local Hiring Engine funnel. You need to make sure you get the right person with the right characteristics who fit into a culture like this, or else this won't work. But if you do find the right people, it's now just a matter of giving them the TRUST to grow, without much interference on your end. Do you really wanna build a team but have to be on their neck all the time just to make sure they follow through on the most simple of tasks? Didn't think so.
