A GUIDE TO BUYIN@molini ADS ON TIKTOK We all know that TikTok is a big new thing. However, as it's quite hard to get set up on the platform to buy ads, there's A LOT of people trying to capitalize on people's newfound interest in the platform by promising to help you buy ads on the platform - which for the most part, they can't. So, here's my guide to the different ad products available that I've used on the platform with *rough* costs per product. *I say rough because their prices are changing all the time and vary massively per country. For transparency, I haven't run ads on the platform for about 2-3 months, so these products may be updated so, please update if there are any changes. First off, I'd say that TikTok is a MASSIVE goldmine, especially now as people are in lockdown and not able to go out. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean the platform is right for everyone right now. In fact, I'd say it's not right for nearly 90% of businesses. FIXED BUYS In-Feed Video - Variable ($2000+ a day) Standard video format you'd see on any channel Brand Takeover - Variable ($10, 000-$50, 000 per day) The first video you see for the day for ALL user on the platform for that day TopView - Variable ($20, 000+ a day) Similar to the Brand takeover, but it's an in-feed video that appears in the first 3-10 swipes Hashtag Challenge - $75, 000-$150, 000 a day You pick a song and get your own homepage for 6 days, where you set a challenge and get users to copy your challenge and create their own version and upload it Branded Effects - Unknown Never ran this, but I presume this is similar to a custom lens on Snapchat. AUCTION In-Feed Video - Roughly $10 CPM - only available in BETA You can start to start buying on a CPC basis but again, in BETA and I've not used the self serve platform. However, from what I've seen it looks similar to the Snapchat platform in terms of look and feel as well as targeting lines. They do have a TikTok pixel as well which you can create your own conversion points which are valuable to the business. I would presume that this is a part of the self service platform, which isn't something that I've used. TARGETIN@molini Targeting is very limited and you're only able to target people in a basic way; age group, country, city, mobile device (Very similar to Snapchat's targeting). Fixed buys are country wide only. SHOULD I TRUST SOMEONE OFFERIN@molini TO RUN ADS FOR ME? For 90% of people and I'd say 100% of local or small business, TikTok just isn't for you yet, so don't go rushing to spend ads on a platform in the way it is with the high barriers to entry and weak targeting capabilities. You'd be better off sticking to a self-serve platform like FB and Instagram for the time being. So saying this, if someone is offering to buy ads for you on TikTok, it's either a scam or you'll get ripped off because the platform probably isn't right for you right now. Happy to answer any questions in this thread but please don't message me asking if I can buy ads for you. Again for transparency, if you want me DM me with any questions or help with anything, I do charge for this.

Good information here, appreciate it. I've been sketchy about TikTok so thanks for the heads up.

Nothing wrong with the platform, it's got a potential gold mine. This is more for information on what you can and can't do on the platform incase people get sucked in by someone who's trying to get them to buy ads through them
by (900 points)
Well you said it's probably not for small or local business yet, that's the meat of my business.
by (10.8k points)
@kantos Yeah from what I've seen, you can only target by country and not by local area (although this may have changed)
by (250 points)
@appel totally agree with you that TikTok is not ideal for small and medium businesses, but you still can target by countries and cities. and just as you said it's got a potential gold mine. thanks for info (Y)
by (10.8k points)
@berate Ah that's interesting. The latest deck I saw only had countries in there - thanks for that :)

Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing. From what you're saying and the different ad formats looks to be a better top of funnel/awareness-led channel than conversion focused? How did you get on in terms of results? Good engagement? Any conversions?
by (10.8k points)
Yeah all TOF and engagement. Haven't done anything to do with conversions so can't comment. Lots of opportunities with influencers if you wanted to avoid being directly with the platform. Engagement was incredible, especially for the hashtag challenege. However the brand we did it for is the world's biggest gaming producer, which made it easier.

Correct me if I’m wrong however isn’t TikTok used primarily by a younger demographic? Therefore isn’t it more ideal for building brand awareness/loyalty vs. actual conversion ads. I’d venture to think that financial/insurance conversion ads don’t yet have a place on TikTok. Is my thinking accurate?
by (10.8k points)
As I said, tiktok isn't right for 90% of business. You wouldn't need to be an expert to figure out you dthat finance and insurance ads don't covert on an app where 14 year olds are sharing videos of themselves dancing to music.

by (10.8k points)

I understood that more and more “older” people are starting to use TicTok. Our target is moms with kids 0-8 do you think/know if they are starting to use the platform yet?
by (10.8k points)
@arman9860 What do you want to achieve?
by (1.2k points)
@appel tof getting people to our website so I can retarget via FB/IG.

This is interesting, i wonder if paying the beta with $10/CPM for growing your personal account would be good to start

Thanks so much for the breakdown. I was actually planning on paying $3k for my own ad account in Tik Tok via this agency. You think it’s legit?
by (10.8k points)
@malamut96550 absolutely not legit.
by (480 points)
@appel they even gave me account access (with no privilidges) as "proof". It seemed kinda legit, but i was sketched out since they require me sign a contract and i have to wire funds with no protection. So, 100% not legit?
by (10.8k points)
@malamut96550 Why would you pay $3000 for an ad account you don’t own, when you can get one for free? It’s a scam and someone who’s trying to capitalise off you
by (480 points)
@appel how can u get one for free? It’s not available in us
by (10.8k points)
@malamut96550 because it’s not available to everyone yet that’s why. People who are asking for money to open up a free account are mugging you off
