Depends on how you want to grow the audience. If you have a private account you won’t appear in hashtags but if you have a source funnelling people to your account it’s forces them to follow you. I’d only go private if you were a meme account where people love to share your posts within IG (you generally need a large enough audience to make this decision to then go private) OR if you have something like Tik Tok or YouTube getting users to visit your IG but the only way to see your content is following.
