So we are on a old forcourt and the ground is pure clay so grass hates it. We are wanting to build it up and fill with top soil then turf. Would 6 inches on top be enough? We are going to put weed membrane down to kill all the weeds and can we leave it down and just put holes in for drainage?

6” should be fine for grass, if using fabric weed membrane you won’t need to put in drainage holes as it’s permeable, I wouldn’t use plastic as even with drainage holes you risk it getting waterlogged

6inches would bring the level well above the slabs and gravel boards, better to just lightly fork or rotovate it and seed or turf
