Always use masonry paint on the fences. These are painted 2 years. Don’t need touching up yet.

@comply Donohoe that wood effect fence at the back looks soo good! X
by (1k points)
@comply thanks. It’s cedar wood. We have a bench made around the table too with it.

@comply Donohoe how did you do the wood at the back. Is it a effect or actual wood? Lovely garden xx

@roderickroderigo4 thanks, love spending time out there. it’s actual wood. Hubby fixed battons on the block wall and then fitted the cedar on. It’s a bit like fitting a wooden floor. He is a carpenter.

Does it soak into the wood and protect it like fence paint should (note I said should)?
by (5.1k points)
@creation it covers the fences really well and doesnt gather moss or algae like ronseal fence paint or any other fence paint. My fences are 12 years old and never looked better using masonry paint. It hasnt chipped flaked or turned green over time. Id never use fence paint or fence stain again, complete waste if money imo

@aminoplast86 going to try this as fed up of moss on fence paint x

@caresse do! You wont be sorry. Im in dublin and cost me 55 euro for 5 litres and one coat with 16 panels. Love it

Better pic excuse my daughter. She says the fence is blue but i say its grey. Either way i love it and plants beside it just pop!
by (2.3k points)
@aminoplast86 I'd say bluey grey

@creation it doesn’t soak into the fence and protect the wood. It looks and last better but ultimately it doesn’t protect your fence and if you want to change colour good luck getting it off or going over it!

@furriery421 usually fences are raw rough sawn wood and not pretreated anyway. I went through so many fence stain, protectors and got a pain in my ass cos no matter what, , they turned green over the winter season. Mine are 12 years old and theyve never looked better. I doubt changing to another masonry paint colour will be an issue and when i decide to change ill post a pic.

Can I use masonry paint on my decking?
by (5.1k points)
@kayak4943 i havent tried but sorely tempted. The only thing stopping me us footfall walking on it. ‍♀️
by (430 points)
@kayak4943 I don’t think it would last well as it’s for brick walls. Maybe something like garage floor paint that’s designed to be walked on, it’ll be more hard wearing xx
by (1.6k points)
I wouldn't recommend it myself, due to the traffic on the decking you want something that soaks in rather than sits on the surface of the wood.

Doesn't flake off, on the panels at least. Maybe a little bit on the cross beams but only after years on my fences. lasts for years and offers better protection! I won't paint fences with anything else! Masonry paint covers old colours so much easier as well.

I was just discussing this option tonight as the ronseal fence paint we've been using all week is pooh. Was advised to use ducks back but I wondered abt black masonry paint

Anyone ever tried this brand of paint?
by (250 points)
@steinmetz yeah me x
by (5.1k points)
@steinmetz no use a decent brand like sandtex or dulyx masonry paint. The good brands have enough anti moulding, anti flaking, anti flaking compounds in the paint. Its bloody brilliant!
