There's a house on my street and they've grown a wisteria tree in the front garden. It's LUSH! Only problem is, the tree must have grown bigger than they planned because it's now all over their front door so either dwarves live in the house or they have to limbo to get in

I think they are beautiful but they can take years to flower.

@sacrifice Yeah I have read.

@sacrifice so worth the wait tho eh
by (1.7k points)
@dirham taken at a castle in Scotland, so pretty ♥️

@sacrifice wow that is stunning x

@sacrifice so pretty, I've always wanted one so after finally buying a house (was always in rented) I treated myself to two last summer. One is doing better than the other but they both survived the winter. I shan't be pruning for at least another year or two yet. Need to get them established. It will make my year when they eventually flower. I realise that could be a few years yet tho x

@dirham it will be well worth it x

@dirham prune twice a year otherwise you won’t get flowers , the buds grow where you cut . They grow pretty quick .
by (2.4k points)
@abelmosk it's only a baby, I was advised by the garden centre not to just yet
by (2.4k points)
@dirham I’m surprised at that , I was advised to prune twice year every year , mine was only a baby too when I got it . They grow at a tremendous rate , good luck do what you think is right.

Top tip , buy one already in flower , they can take up too ten years to flower if not , prune twice a year, I’ll take a pic of mine in the morning, 3 years old .
by (370 points)
@abelmosk thank you. I'll take a look online. Did you buy one flowered? If so where from? Thanks
by (2.4k points)
@mendelson99895 yes brought mine in flower , 6 ft tall £20 from garden center. First one I had wasn’t in flower , dug it out after 5 years ! Think it is something to do with grafting , if you buy in flower you will get flowers every year , pruning is trial and error lol , got the hang of it now .
by (370 points)
@abelmosk ok great. I'll ensure I buy flowered haha. Thanks

@abelmosk please can you tell me about pruning really want to look after mine and have no idea many thanks
by (2.2k points)
@abelmosk I will send a picture in the morning
by (2.4k points)
@morale5724 yes of corse , tag me your picture. It took me a while to get my head around it . The best way to explain is in November cut the long whispy bits to 5 buds , ( count the leaf pairs ) then February cut to two or three buds , there will be no leaf in feb so count the nodes  sorry that reply was for @donkey fox

Mine flowered for the first time last year it was here when I moved in 10 years ago. I didn't even know what it was I thought it was dead in the winter I missed trimming it apparently its Feb and July but its as a tree in my front garden I'm definitely going to look after it better now I know what it is its only just getting its leaves back at the moment

Mine is 6 years old and was a cutting from my moms wisteria. It’s the first year it’s flowered this year. I usually cut it back once a year but last year I didn’t do it because 2 years ago I thought I’d killed it as I cut it really back. Xx
by (450 points)
It is on the left side of this as well but that’s only just started to shoot. that fence panel got damaged in the winds earlier this year so had to change the panel, I think that’s altered the grown on that side xx
by (380 points)
@howling how do you take a cutting of it please Thanks
by (450 points)
@aeciospore193 I’ve no idea as my mom did and planted it for me. Someone asked me the other day so il ask my mom and let you know xx
by (200 points)
@howling I'd be very interested to know too x
by (220 points)
Oooooh a cutting. I might have to steal some from my mum.

This is the best year I have had for flowers on my wisteria . I bought it from Morrison’s for about £1. 50 some 18/20 Years ago and decided to try and grow it as a standard in a pot . I used a metal pole from my sons old goal post and wire coat hangers trying to create a frame I’d seen supporting one in local garden centre . ( priced £125 ) . I think I must have got the pruning right this year . It has been in this same pot for the most of this time apart from the very beginning. I think this early heatwave has been good for it and it’s been fantastic to sit on the patio during lockdown and admire it . Hoping this wet weather does not batter it to much .
by (1.4k points)
@chancellorsville is this a normal one or did you get a tree one?
by (1.4k points)
@frap30280 No I just picked plant up while shopping in Morrisons all those years ago . Inspired by a standard I’d seen in a garden centre I thought I would have a go . Tried to identify the variety the other day and think it looks like this one .
by (1.4k points)
@chancellorsville there must a tree and trailing varies x
