Hey!  Has anyone got any good cheap ideas of what we could do to make our steps at the front of our house look more appealing?Hey! Has anyone got any good cheap ideas of what we could do to make our steps at the front of our house look more appealing? Preferrably low maintenance! We completely de weeded it. to the right we were thinking of putting slate clippings or bark down? But feel we need to "line" or give the steps a border? Thanks

I would recommend painting them to make them stand out and then see what you fancy, either bedding plants very close to the steps, or little plants pots fake or real, solar lights, jars of the string solar lights xx

I’d make a rockery and fill it with creeping alpines. Definitely put weed liner down though

I'd put low maintenance plants in, but with plenty of variation for interest and texture, hostas, hebes ferns and then for colour red codalines bark mulch around them and pop in some low level lighting under the odd fern or codaline for dramatic impact at night

I had my lawn taken away and thought I would replace it with slate. It is a nightmare, it’s back breaking getting weeds and grass out of it where it has seeded. Thought it would be low maintenance.

@fumy7 oh no! We have some fabric down already but do need more. Were hoping that would help a bit
by (2k points)
@snub975 I had fabric down as well, maybe yours will be ok as there is not so much to cover.  it will be man able I’m sure.

They are a gorgeous shape! I would clean them up and put in layers of low growing rockery plants that self seed to fill in the gaps! Stunning

Lights tucked in to the vertical (risers? ) part would be lovely especially if they were different colours x

I would edge your stepped garden area with wood - well anchored. Low maintain end plants like aubretia and something like succulents for evergreen interest would look great. You may wish to plant these through weed suppressing material and wood chip / slate on top. It won’t stop weeds entirely but does slow their progress. It’s a beautiful garden so far. I’d echo the idea for lights to appreciate it in the evening and winter.
