I have roughly 50m³ of soil to dig out (1m deep) and dispose of. What the cheapest way of getting rid? Hopefully I'll be able to lose some on the garden but unlikely that it will be much

Grab hire will cost you a lot less than a skip. If you can get it all piled where it’ll be grabbed from in a few loads, it will be peanuts per load compared to a dozen skips.

See if there are any allotments near you and ask if they want to come and grab some. or put an ad on marketplace to give it away for free

Builders skip is normally 8tonne, but it's double handling the soil, then if you fill that skip you may need another. Cheapest is grabhire

I normaly pay 180 for grab hire and will take away between 20 - 30 tonne

@shoshone yes mate sorry I should have been a bit more precise, I pay 180 per 30 tonne. Normally if I take any big jobs on I get a slightly better rate as I know a few people. 180 to any customer for 18tonne is way better than a skio of 8 yard and saves the loading

I got few good contacts that I pass round to all my mates in the trade for grab hire, so I do get mine cheaper but it's all expensive these days especially when you move 8 tonne and it takes 2dats in a wheelbarrow, then in5 mins with a grab truck it's gone

Without a doubt grab hire. Miles cheaper. I had them when I done my extension, took three visits for about £700. 43 ton about 6 skips(£235 on the road with permit)

We have just dug out a big part of our garden. We have levelled our grass areas which used a lot and people on facebook market will take for free if you bag it up.

@shoshone 4 lorry loads at 79 ton so not too bad really. I've moved 60 ton and he did it in 3 loads.

A grab lorry can only be 32 tonne including the lorry so will only take 16 to 18 tonne and soil it 500+ a load

Just to make sure the soil you use on the garden is topsoil and not Clay's etc

What's the access like? You'll want to keep some topsoil to cover back over, it's the subsoil you'll need rid of

30 foot by 15 foot dug 1m deep say for footings for a large garge/outbuilding, That's what my guess is he's doing lol so doesn't seem like a lot. or very big pond or half sunk swimming pool.
