Kent, UK.  have two plants in my garden given to me and I’ve no idea what they are?Kent, UK. have two plants in my garden given to me and I’ve no idea what they are? They are doing well and I want to make sure I have them in big enough pots? Please help me x

Smaller plant looks like a winter rose or Helebore (think thats how you spell it). Not sure about larger plant.

I think the tall ones a weed, but a pretty one, little pink flowers I think

Get rid of the big one. It is a weed and it’ll spread and take over the pot. Yes, you have a hellebore in there. They’re lovely. They need water and shade and will have already flowered this year (hence the common name ‘winter rose’). Hellebores come in all sorts of colours - see pic. They’re great.

The smaller plant at the back is a violet. So 3 plants willow herb, hellebore and violet

@croak I found out the back one was violet on my app but couldn’t find the other two

The tall one is a weed called Rosebay Willowherb and has tiny pink flowers which turn to fluffy seed heads which will seed all over your garden. I would pull it out and get rid of it. The green low plant is a Hellebore/Christmas Rose

I could be wrong but tall one maybe a weed the darker leaf is Christmas rose. Flower in winter very pretty the flowers then turn to leaves and also look nice x

Thank you, will pull the weed up then. My garden only has pots and a small lawn so no idea why my mother in law gave it to me?

She probably didnt mean to - it probably self seeded in the pot; the seeds blow in. She most likely meant to just give you the violet and the hellebore - the weed is a surprise bonus :)

The tall one is a weed
