Question

Hi, is there anyway of getting rid of ivy permanently please? As fast as I can cut it back it grows again. It seems to have gone from being a creeper to “I’ll just wait until he has gone to the front of the house, put too fingers up and cover the back of the house again” sort of plant. ‍♂️‍♂️

Cut all the stems a few inches above ground level and paint them with stump root killer (also known as SBK) which should kill off the roots. After a week or so it should be easy to pull the dead top growth off. After a few months dig out as much of the roots as you can. Anything that dares to grow after that should be easy to just pull out.

Poison the roots after you've cut it down

Make sure you cut a huge chunk between the stem and the ivy so it can’t reattach! Then dig out as much of the root as you can. Cove what’s left with a bag after you have cut an x in it and put weed killer on it. Then it’s just a case of ensuring anything that grows from ground level is pulled up.

SBK - strong brushwood killer. I used it neat - yes I know you're not suppose to! You must put it on freshly cut stem and COVER that stem securely with plastic bag to stop wildlife going near it. Not recommended if you have young children

Make sure you cut from the root. That will stop it growing
