It would be a lot easier to use rectangular troughs and you could rotate bulbs like daffodils or tulips, bedding plants and veg say pea pods or runner beans up your fence, just a thought

I’d put long thin troughs in also . you get lovely wooden ones . sweet peas climbing up the fence . smell great too x

Right i was going to say ive put dirt directly on concrete before and just made a rock border to plant in and it was great.

The concrete will be part of the support for the fence posts, lengths of wood to mimic a trough filled with soil would be lovely x

Just use long planters otherwise you're just inviting weeds to grow in the gap. Geraniums are good long blooming value. Bizzy lizzies are cute and colourful. Campanula will spread and grow every year. Petunias have lots of lovely flowers
