Question

Found out a new thing tonight (I am not a gardener and mowing is about my skill but learning. Anyway, am currently pulling up patio to level and re-lay as its popping up. I am delighted to find loads of leather jackets under it . How can i humanely get rid off? Really don't like killing things but my grass struggles enough with me as it owner

I read this and was thinking, did someone steal a load of leather jackets and hide them under the patio lol sorry I cant help

@milan96 It took a bit of digging to get the first one up as they had been laid very securely previously. Once I got one up, the others weren't so much of a challenge.

See many in my lawn but didn't know what they were nor their common name. Thinking arent they funny looking slugs, yet they are not typical slugs, so they are leather jacket.

Lots of people borrow chickens for a few days to get rid of them as they LOVE them. It’s extreme but an old tried and tested method x

Sorry for the confusion there . Leather jackets are daddy long leg larvae. They can destroy your lawn and plants as they munch on the roots.

I have seen some of these in my garden and thought they looked like a shrivelled pen*s lol I think we have them under the grass as it barely grows

You need to get rid of them with nematode or they will kill any plant life including your lawn.
