I have just purchased a dwarf plum tree and a dwarf cherry tree. It says to put them into a 24" minimum pot but all the pots come in litre sizes. I understand that different shapes will hold different amounts but what is 24" approx in litres for a pot. Or I can plant them in the ground but will this encourage them to grow taller? Its a pixy plumb tree. Would a 125lt pot suffice? My plan was to plant them in a large tub, then sink the tub into the ground so it looks like its planted but i dont want it to grow too big

@insnare3215 I checked on there but it only goes up to 40l

@buna82525 well if 20” is 40 litres, and 5” is 1 litre, if you add that together.

I would go for 70 litre minimum for a fruit tree. Stake it well too as they suffer from root rock. Use John Innes No. 2

They will get to the same size if planted in a pot or the garden because its grafted to a dwarf rootstock. they will grow better if planted in the garden theres more nutrients in the garden soil to feed it better

I have decided not to use a pot as I was going to sink it into the ground anyway, hopefully they really are dwarf fruit trees

If it turns into a 50 foot tree go back to the shop & claim from them lol if it says dwarf it will be don't panic & go on youtube put in young cherry or plum tree pruning it will show you how to prune them so more sun & air can hit the centre of it so it will get less diseases & bugs & better fruits
