Crushed egg shells or short cut human hair. They dont like the feel of it on their bellies. not that I talk to slugs.

Tricia, you can talk to slugs as long as you’re 2 metres apart

I prefer not to use chemical slug pellets as I believe that they poison the food chain, so I have been using wool pellets and I cannot recommend them highly enough. I have some hostas in my garden, which are usually a slugs' and snails' banquet, but surrounded by wool pellets the slugs and snails have kept off them. There is something in sheep's wool that is a major irritant to slugs and snails so they won't cross the pellets.

Too early to put plants that could be vulnerable or destroyed by pests try a loose net or small gravel stones slugs won’t travel through stones or even some salt around the container

Kill them all . and keep killing them . it took me three years of constant killing them at least 10 a day . pellets salt copper strips gell even used some germ war. they come from gardens next to you. now I'm killing the baby snails. Snails breed all year round each time the snails lay dozens at least three times a year. That's what your up against.

They happen to have a place in the gardens food chain . birds and reptiles and amphibeans all eat molluscs . bigger slugs also predate smaller ones . see the bigger picture And stop growing hostas delphiniums basil lupins etc

Don't plant it too early outside. Wait until mid- to late spring, when all danger of frost has passed and it's at least 50 degrees, but preferably 70 degrees. Don't plant basil outdoors in any spot where a previous basil plant has been infected with the fungal disease fusarium wilt.

Eat the slugs. They've basically just stuffed themselves! Not too much salt though, or you'll the texture.
