@fourierism68627 ordered solar water fountain from amazon, think it was less than a tenner. Tea tray that sits on top of the planter was from amazon and was sprayed black with B&M metal spray. Gazing balls and pebbles also from B&M. It needs topping up with water everyday x

Yes in a large water butt. Just put solar fountain back in and worked straight away. frightened me to death because I put the solar panel in the ground, the sun came out while I was holding the pump

@mutt101 big pot from b+m, 2 smaller pots inside , 1 upside down and another on top and I have a cemeaic one upside down in the top to give it more height for the pump. Secure the pump to the ceramic pot and weigh it down with something heavy and fill with water 2 layers of chicken wire, secured togther to sit on top, fill with stones and balls. secured together. Solar pump of Amazon, had the balls last year'

It took a few attempts to get it right as it kept running out of water because the fall back into it wasn't happening

This is the 3rd year with my solar fountain, it's very simple but very effective ⛲
by (1.2k points)
@dustpan love it have the gaze balls want to make one like that
by (470 points)
@mutt101 it is so easy to make, if you haven't started yours yet, I would suggest getting a wide pot as when it's really sunny the water spurts higher and doesn't fall back into the pot, this means you will need to keep topping the water up.

@dustpan perfect thanks for the tip x

I've had one for 3 years now. Just ordered another for my bird bath. Yes they only work when the sun is on them but they are beautiful.

I’ve ordered a solar fountain with battery backup from Amazon £17. 99 so it should work on cloudy days too.
by (360 points)
@myogenic546 hi have you got the link please to buy one
by (5.1k points)
@bendick the bottom one is what I’ve ordered but looks like the price has increased since Thursday when I ordered mine
by (360 points)
@myogenic546 thanks, will have a look now much appreciated
by (5.1k points)
@bendick there are loads on there but not many that have battery back up. You need this for it to operate on cloudy days.

Can any one tell me how long their solar powered ones last, i dont seem to have much luck with anything i buy which is solar powered
by (220 points)
@eulaheulalee8 me neither lights last about a year. I made my solar powered water feature 3 years ago and it’s still standing and it’s only from eBay
by (220 points)
@eulaheulalee8 This is the same pump I’ve just changed it various times to different pots etc to change it up
by (480 points)
@doormat34 looks absolutely fab, do you take it out over winter and put out again in the summer?
by (220 points)
@eulaheulalee8 Thankyou! No it stays out all winter. Maybe it shouldn’t haha but I’ve never taken it in. They get very heavy when all the stones/slate is in their so I’ve never emptied it
by (480 points)
@doormat34 thank you, you have inspired me I'm , going to have a go at one x
