This is a Cordyline not a palm tree. This can sometimes happen when the plant is trying to find the sun. Cordylines can be cut at the trunk and grow back so you may want to explore that option.

by (1.3k points)
@decant it is yes I am concerned because it's going towards the fence. It will cause damage eventually.

I like them like that mines in a big pot I spin it round now and again I like it hanging over my little bistro table. Mines turned bit yellow though never done it before any ideas?
by (1.1k points)
@castra prob pot bound if it's gone yellow, just take it out of the pot whole and place into a larger pot. Try not to disrupt the roots too much when re potting or putting it into the ground

I always thought plants grow this way because they are chasing/searching for the sun so go start to bend in that direction.
by (520 points)
@enisle Crook that's correct, they do that and I agree I think that's why this is happening with the plant

Mine are in huge pots on gravel boards, we constantly turn them and the plaited willow and acers too. They all want the sun. If you don't you get a good side and a side with less growth and they'll bow.

My cordyline grew massive but then noticed after the winter it had died. Probably because of the position I had put it (in a fenced corner) so hardly got any light and also dried out. I broke the trunk off close to the root. Do you think it has had it now or do you think if watered it would come back to life? Thanks x
by (3.4k points)
@concordia mine keeps sprouting

by (3.4k points)
@dnepropetrovsk684 mine was swaying and I was afraid it would smash my summer house windows so that’s why I did it but I keep getting new shoots I chop them from the bottom but kept one growing from last year
by (470 points)
Lind did not know it would grow that tall, will use electric saw get bushy part at top first and then see where it goes. I wont mind the shoots, just keep them at bay. Suppose would have to get the roots out to stop the shoots.
