Has anybody had their back garden completly covered in stones? Got a quite and this seems the cheapest option. I want to still use a pool and was thinking of getting some rubber squares for underneath the pool. Has anybody done this before I make a huge mistake. Thanks in advance.

Me. I took it all up. They’re definitely not dog or kid friendly. The previous owners didn’t have dogs or kids, so it looked lovely. We slabbed the lot and put slate in flower beds down the sides and they still looked awful (dogs toilet) so we’re in the middle of decking right over the lot.

honestly I’d rather put up with the mess till you can afford to do what you really wanna do with the area, gravel/slate is pointless with a dog imo. I’ve put 2 lots down now and just paid £120 for a skip to put it all in. I have it in my front garden which is ok, was cheap and cheerful to make it look pretty but I don’t let the dogs out the front (they like to jump fences) so that’s not so bad.

we've got a strong plastic gridding under most of it, which keeps it from spreading everywhere which is on top of membrane. Its pea shingle we used. The back corner is just on membrane but I find its fine to walk on and I have balance problems. The gridding came from screwfix also the membrane did. We put it down as the garden was so muddy after all that rain last year, its really worked. The baby summerhouse is 1. 8m x 1. 8m and 2. 7m high

Depends what your talking really, stones, gravel, river pebbles. I had 14 tonne of river pebbles. When I had my little boy I took a large section and paved it as not ideal for kids to play on.

I've got a patio area and then it was stone from there. But I have a bull mastiff and a staffie. This year I've at to move stones back even further and lay artificial grass. I don't have the issue now

I have all stones down and regret it, I have a dog so to clean stuck in gravel! They have discoloured after 2 years and hard to clean. I wish I’d spent the extra and had it paved.

this is what I am worried about. I have a dog. The garden at the moment is horrible. About 2/3 years ago I paid to have it all dug up and turf laid. Now it's patchy and lots of weeds. The quote for all in with the work and stones laid is about 400 and part slabs and stones is 1, 500 xx

I 100% would not do it again. It’s ok from a distance lol but too much work to try and keep clean. Either have an area done at a time when you have been able to save and get it done.
