Can anyone recommend an easy, attractive and relatively inexpensive way to add some privacy to our fence panels? We are intending to replace the fence once lockdown is over but for now we need privacy and protection from the delightful neighbours, who are ignoring the current guidance and think it’s acceptable to keep having social gatherings and parties.

Burn some sulfuric acid with a fan next to it to ensure it goes their way. They won’t stay out long ;)
by (380 points)
@sandhurst72181 and it might mask the smell of drugs and fags that wafts in from their direction

More seriously, maybe something like this

Pin some bin bags or sheets over the panels . Won’t look amazing but will give you temporary privacy

Surely they won't go through the effort at peeping through the tiny holes?  I'd just plant some jasmine or clematis against that fence and it will add a plant screen.

@impotence2560 you’d think so wouldn’t you?! Our garden is not massive and my two kids live outside when the weather is good. Unfortunately the neighbours also love being in the garden and last weekend had their chairs right up against the fence so less than 2 metres away. Plus the gaps aren’t that small in places. we can see them in their garden and vice versa. They go out of their way to intimidate us and I’d rather just not see them full stop .
by (1.9k points)
@ungley737 they sound like assholes tbh. Plant something there but until then I'd stick a sainsburys bag or garbage bag over to give them something to talk about.

They are. I need a quick solution for now or I’ll get done for multiple murders before lockdown is over

Staple up a few shower curtains just for now

Police SHOULD be giving them a fine, if they have already been out once. makes my blood boil.
by (380 points)
@vermouth5065 I know, right! People come and go all day long! The rest of us are going stir crazy in our houses whilst following the guidance just so muppets like them can carry on as normal. And they are the ones that will keep us on lockdown till Christmas!

If you have a staple gun, staple some fabric onto the panels? You could get some cheap shower curtains for that too.
by (380 points)
@part5 I have a heavy duty staple gun yes. and I’m thinking of getting some weather proof material to stick on it till we can get them replaced.

This will look really cool
by (450 points)
@jackson10 I think so too. Could be a permanent fixture so no need to replace existing fence

I like the fence, maybe staple some netting and grow lovely climbers up
by (380 points)
@earflap I know, the fence is quite pretty (just battered in places) but the gaps are driving us mad. The neighbours before these ones used to have feral kids who’d stand by the fence peeping in all day long so I was relieved when they moved. but now we have these muppets instead
by (2k points)
@ungley737 ah that makes sense then, 6 ft high with barbed wire then!
by (380 points)
@earflap especially on their side  I’m tempted to replace it with a fence that’s a really lovely colour on our side and something totally feral on theirs

@ungley737 I feel your pain

Have you tried to get fence panels delivered? wouldnt cost much and a lot of places are still delivering
by (380 points)
@constituent I’ve looked into it but I’d need access to their side to be able to change them. Also one panel is smaller so not sure I’d be able to get one ready made? We are looking into our options. We’ve wanted to change the fence for a more private one for a while but this has been the last straw.
by (380 points)
Luckily that side is ours and we can change it. Would be worse if it was theirs! I’ve spoken to the landlord who’s given me the go ahead as well.
by (1.5k points)
@ungley737 you shouldnt need access to their side? they are slot in panels so should lift out with a bit of force. for the smaller panes, you just need a saw. you carefully remove on edge of a full panel, nail the edge back on at the width it needs to be, then saw off the excess last. :)
by (380 points)
I see. Our side has a flower bed though so not sure how that would go. They also have some hanging baskets attached to their side and I would actually have to speak to them before doing it and I really don’t want to  Although a part of me really wants to start removing the panels during one of their gatherings just to see their faces

That green netting for covering fruit plants is nice and goes a long way.
by (380 points)
@too3276 that’s what I’m thinking might the best solution till we get a new fence.

Sound like mine and two of them out there coughing. Might be nothing but rather not take the chance. !
by (380 points)
@smoothie  we’ve heard coughing too. So many people come and go all day plus they are all going out several times a day too so I’m really not keen for there to be any visible gaps in the fence
by (1.1k points)
@ungley737 same here, lucky they dont tend to appear in their garden until around 1300 so I have the morning out there. I have got a high fence but sooner do something indoors than listen to them coughing their heads off.
by (380 points)
@smoothie argh what is wrong with some people?
by (1.1k points)
@ungley737 simple, they dont care about anyone but themselves.
