Question

Anyone with knowledge about unemployment benefits? I have a very specific question. I am a photographer, and I am currently furloughed from my manager position at Bella Baby. I submitted for unemployment, and only claimed lost wages through my company, not from my personal photography business, because that’s not available to those self employed. I was considering doing some editing and digital work during my furlough. Do you think that would affect my unemployment? The way my husband and I are looking at it is that we file taxes for that business separately, and I did not apply for benefits due to lost sessions last month or this month, but I don’t want to do anything that would jeopardize my other benefits.

@wraparound86 can I file since my business is “closed” right now because photography is non essential but I am legal and have a business account and EIN. so I filed taxes for it to go off of.

@wraparound86 thanks! It is hard to understand. I don’t bring in a ton with my business but I’m out of business until this is over losing all that money. It sucks.

@cislunar, it all depends on how you were paying yourself for how you will get “unemployment” or unemployment type credit. It’s super confusing and without knowing how you’ve handle it all I can’t say for certain how it would all shake out. Lol. Give a call. If you don’t have my number still let me know!
