Just contacted Groot online asking if there is some way to get yard waste stickers without going to a store, in order to maintain social distance. Does anyone know if this is already possible? If not, maybe we should, together, demand such.

I heard you don't need them for a few weeks. Our service will not pick them up at all because the drivers would need to handle them. Sucks.

@mood118 I don’t blame them for not wanting to pick up the bags. Maybe they should let us put our yard waste in bins so the equipment can dump it into the truck.

I agree with them not wanting to touch them. I think they would have to check each bin to make sure it is all yard waste. They told me it was temporary so ours will be going to the daughters house for now.

@fail670 thanks. We have Republic so we will ask. Thx

@palaeozoology8450 you already can put them in bins. We have a second recycling bin. we went to the utilities center and got a label from them that says yard waste. We put our waste in there, a sticker on the handle (when required) and they pick it up.

@manus great idea thank you! I did not know that!

@palaeozoology8450 Glad to help! :)

@manus I just called over there and they said you have to buy a 35 gallon(max) container from a hardwares store, mark it and then out stickers in the handle so I don’t think we can use the recycle bin. Thank you for the info!

@palaeozoology8450 fair enough. but we use a recycle bin every week. but we have two.

And then we put a sticker on the handle and they tear it off

@darwinism yes, I am thinking about this too.

@darwinism thanks for the link. I just actually used it to suggest that they forego the stickers for the near term and let us put the yard waste in a garbage bin the machinery in the truck could pick it up. The workers should not have to.

I'm surprised they haven't done this already. It'd be easy to let people pay online and download/print their own proof of payment. Just like all the shippers do.

If you are ordering groceries from Shipt you can also add them on as a special request. I have purchased them for customers before.

It's already essentially a "tax". I can't see a reason for paying a premium to "shipt" to take advantage of an essential service. Well, aside from benefitting "shipt". There is a handful of ways they could address this without employing a middleman

I ordered a bin for yard waste. It’s an annual fee but I was tired of never having stickers when I needed them. Also those brown bags are a pain to get stuff in because they never stand up. The last couple of weeks when it’s been free I have been filling up that bin plus any other old garbage cans and recycling bins I could find and they have taken it all.

Got a link for this crackerjack idea?!

Answered my own question. $225 a year. I'm guessing that's probably more than I've spent on yard waste stickers in the 20 years I've been living here, but getting those bags and stickers is definitely a nuisance :)

You can also use the cart for food scraps! although it all goes to the same destination so you *could* cheat and do food scraps in your brown bag, but they might catch you and ticket you, plus brown bags aren't great at keeping the critters out.

I go through a lot of bags because I have large trees and a garden so it was worth it. Stickers are $2. 25 a piece so that’s 100 stickers. Also not having to fight with the bag has been worth it. No carrying soggy bags to the curb as the bottoms fall out.

@outside Soggy bags. The worst!

If I could get a few neighbors go in on one, I might consider it.

If you are buying groceries or meds you can buy stickers . it’s not an extra visit If your doing curb side pick up I’m guessing they could be part of your on line order

I know how to get them. I want to be able to pay for and download them online. Is this asking for too much?

@assuasive309 Bought them today as part of my Mariano’s curbside order. Just request them in the notes box at checkout.

Fyi. Temporary price reduction If you’ve been considering a yard waste cart instead of bags, now is the time! Groot has reduced the price of the 95-gallon cart to $185 until May 31. The 65-gallon cart will not be offered during this promotion. All prices will return to normal on June 1. For reference, the 95-gallon yard waste carts fit approximately 4 bags worth of yard waste. Find a list of stores that sell stickers and more information about how to order a cart at www. naperville. il. us/yardwaste.
