Has anyone used Philo for live and on-demand TV? I’m so frustrated that my AT&T cable bill continues to increase. I’m looking for some alternative way but when I look at Philo or Sling it’s like neither have the channels I want so may need to get both. Also I need to be able to record shows. Wondering if you all have any input? I do have Apple TV so I’m guessing I can get local channels there? Thanks!

We're testing out YouTubeTV right now, so far so good. Biggest Pain with YouTubeTV is you can not delete any recordings and u can not just record 1 episode of something (u have to record the whole series). Also going to look into Philo too bc my kids like Nickelodeon too.

@languishing73 really? Those sound interesting and like little annoyances. Thanks for letting me know.

@frady sure no problem. I will note with reference to the recordings, once u remove a show from ur library the whole series will be deleted from ur library list. So lets say u want to record the news tonight at 10pm (ch 2) bc there is something u wanted to see, u add it to ur library, it records but u don't watch it till sunday afternoon, it will record Saturdays news at 10p as well. Then say u've watched it sunday afternoon and don't want to save it anymore, u can remove it from ur library and it will delete all recorded news at 10p and will no longer record the series. Hope that makes sense. It's really quirky but I think all the streaming services all have some quirks (I've been kind of researching any that might work for us for a while now). It's just a matter of finding what ur willing to live with. *oh and u also cannot see the guide that far in advance. For instance right now its 546pm on friday and i can only see the guide till 1am Saturday morning. But u can still search for shows and add them to ur library. *It definitely takes some getting used to and I'm still in the process of learning.

@languishing73 whoa ok, and the plot thickens. Lol. It does make sense, some unfortunate quirks. This is really helpful! Thank you.

@frady sorry if that was way too much info, but its just stuff I would have wanted to know b4 making the switch. Its really not as bad as it sounds. And I'm not sure if its it's still available but we did a free 2 week trial of YouTubeTv (I kept Directv during those 2 free weeks too make sure I really was ok with YouTubeTv). U can probably google it to see if there is still a 2 free week trail or something to test it out.

@languishing73 not too much info at all, I rather know this upfront. Thanks for taking the time to write it all out!

We have Philo because it has all the Viacom channels - mainly Nickelodeon, because my kids love Paw Patrol and a few other shows. It doesn't have any local or sports channels though if that's important to you. We also have YouTube TV which is our main cable alternative, and it does include locals and sports.

@resignation5525 appreciate the input! Didn’t know that YouTube has local and sports

We have a digital antenna which gives us 20+ local stations including several PBS choices for kids. We also have Hulu Live (which includes the local Chicago ABC, CBS, and NBC affiliates and includes a record option) and Netflix. Our Verizon account gave us Disney+ for free for a year. We watch all these (excluding the antenna channels) via our Apple TV. It's been a few years and we've been very happy with these options.

We use YoutTubeTV and used PSVue previously (no longer exists). Have been happy with both. Were less enthused about Sling, which we had first. At the time, they were missing one of our locals and the sports offerings weren’t as good.
