We are in the process of looking for another rental house and I have a question. Families with younger kids who live in houses or townhomes without fenced in backyards -- how do you let your kiddos out? My concern is not only making sure that my kiddos don't wonder off too far, but also the freedom for whoever to have access to the same territory and to approach my kids at any moment. Even the neighbors -- you never know what kind of people live in every single house sharing the same lawn. How do you make this work for you?

W/O a fence I would not let my kids be alone outside w/o supervision until they’re old enough to know better not to wonder off. Too many weirdos out there.

I personally don't care for fences and prefer the backyards to be open. That said, I was always outside with my kids when they were out. I didn't 'let my kiddos out', but went out and played with them.

My kids like to explore outside and create their own imaginary play. And I like them to be outside much more than the amount of time I can afford away from everything.

We dont have a fence, and my kiddo usually just plays on the deck while im watching from the kitchen. If he wants to go in the yard then I go on the deck to watch him

We lived in the three story town homes behind Whole Foods and the only way my kids could play without me back there is on the porch that was off the kitchen. We had enough room for the water table and a small outdoor couch and umbrella. Since the driveways faced each other, many of the older kids played behind the houses on the blacktop space

My 4 year old is allowed to be on my deck while I cook or whatnot but if we’re in the yard/land then I’m always with her. I’m less nervous about something bad happen to her than I am a crabby old neighbor complaining about anything and everything. But like you said. you never know so I’m out with her when she wants to play outside.

I'm always outside with my kids. The only exception is sometimes when they got home from school I would let them play outside with the 2 kids on our block who ride the bus with them. I do keep an ear out for them and frequently check on them, but I figure they're safer with 4 of them out there, with the oldest in 6th grade.

I do not let. my son play outside in the front on his own. I only let. him play in the backyard while I am not there bc its fenced. And it's a 5 foot fence with a locked gate.

If you rent a condo and you have kids. Get one with a yard!

I basically don’t let my kid out. The yard here is shared and there’s no fence. Totally sucks. Especially right now that parks are closed
