Ok give me the dirt. What's the difference in training an 8 week old puppy and a 4-5 month old puppy? To be honest I think they are wrong in the age of the 4-5 month old. I think he is a lot older because he is some kind of beagle mix and he is 40 pounds! They think he is mixed with lab or maybe a shepherd. But how is he 40 pounds already then?
Ok give me the dirt.

This is the 8 weeker. She is a lab/hound mix. But we would have to drive an hour into Chicago just to get her

An 8 week old puppy is not 40 pounds! Our golden retriever puppy was 7 pounds at 8 weeks old. The 4-5 month old puppy will be easier to train!

The 8 week old is only like 8-10 pounds. They are saying the 4-5 month old is weighing in at 40 pounds right now

@camel3 unless it’s a Lare breed dog I think the puppy is closer to 9 months old at that weight

Our shepherd mix was 40 pounds before a year old. But we were also told he’d be 35 pounds full grown. They can’t be really accurate when they only see the mom.

It depends on the training that has already been done (if any). We got our yellow lab from a breeder and she was crate trained and almost fully potty trained

She was 16w when we got her

I am not sure about the older one but I think the younger one would need to be trained most definitely.

I got our dog at 12 weeks and she still woke up in the middle of the night needing out for a few weeks after that. An 8 week old will probably need out twice at night, while a 4-5 month old should be able to sleep through the night. They are a little smarter and easier to train if they are on the older side.

I think the older the better, they can hold it longer

We just got a 5 month old. I know for our family at least, the older the better.

Five years ago a got an 8 week old Doberman pup. I bought the pee pads expecting the house training to take a while. Never once did he mess in the house. We control fed and took him out regularly and praised his duties every time. I don’t think she matters as much as parental consistency. Take the pup that pulls your heart.
