Vote on the referendum March 17th. Same day as the primaries.

@conjunctivitis83680 there’s a discussion sometime in March with Chirico and others. Each will talk about pros and cons. Trying To find a meeting date.
by (650 points)
This happened at City Council two times already. Very large public forums. Why do it again?
by (1.7k points)
@picco They settled on a non-binding referendum. No one on the board seems to want to attach a yes or no to their name. But the vote is non-binding, so I don’t get it.
by (650 points)
@conjunctivitis83680 thank you for the clarification! I’m sure the city wants a vote to be able to back up their decision. They do t want to make a stand one way or another without being able to say it’s what “the people” want. Just more reason to vote your opinion!

Like personally opening? I’m pretty sure Naperville voted against it.
by (4.2k points)
I’m 100-% for it. I think it’s a great way to bring in revenue

Like another one that’s not medical only? There is one for medical. Why not? It’s not going to hurt anything. Other towns have been cashing in and no reports of issues that I have seen or heard of.

The people that are against it are often the same people with an alcoholic beverage in their hand. ‘Naperville doesn’t want the stigma’. well, hate to break it to people, but alcohol kills more people yearly than any other substance. So bring on the dispensary and hopefully the revenue from it!

@yoo7313 and Naperville ranks pretty high for DUI arrest! Top executives/CEOs are the highest. Drinking milk at the bar to blow in the meter in their cars!
by (7.8k points)
@ineluctable493 Roby dear lord.  it bothers me when people want to point the finger at others. They forget there are 3 fingers pointing back!
by (7.8k points)
@ineluctable493 Roby btw, does the milk trick work?  I’ve never heard of that!
by (9k points)
@yoo7313 the lactic acid has been known to help mask it. I’m a nurse and it’s been something that’s come up in cases. I say just don’t drink and drive!
by (7.8k points)
@ineluctable493 Roby probably a smart idea  I am also a nurse. But different wheelhouse. I help deliver babies! And we’d have a whole other issue if a preggo showed up drunk in labor

People are going to buy it regardless of where it’s sold. On the street or in another city. And more people use it than even admit.  So why not? It’s the reality of the present and the future so embrace it. ✔️

What’s you thoughts on opening a liquor store in Naperville? It’s the same question.
by (7.6k points)
@sideline right?! Liquor is sold everywhere. Alcohol can be more disruptive. It’s myopic to disregard one and not the other

All for it. A lot of the arguments against it seem bogus to me ‍♀️.

Umm yes! The taxes would be great for Naperville. Why let another town benefit from all the revenue.

Naperville has already declined twice. Romeoville and Aurora both have medical/recreational dispensaries. Naperville has a reputation to uphold as a “family” friendly community. NO WAY in hell they would open one.

The taxes from the dispensary is ridiculously high. They scan your ID two different times; once in line for Illinois resident verification and another right before $$$cash only transaction. They are defiantly keeping track. Stick with your dealer

I don’t think about it. I could care less. If people want it they’ll get it anywhere they can.

I was pro until I lived with it for three years. Tons of accidents, no field sobriety, it costs a ton to regulate and it’s incredibly regressive. Most places of employment began drug testing in WA so only the unemployed, young and retired could partake. Big marijuana is just as dirty as big tobacco in the day. It’s more harmful than people are willing to admit. The Laffer curve applies as well and IL in typical fashion will tax it too high which means people will get it from dealers and no revenue will be collected. If people want it they can go somewhere else.

I get why some are afraid of the idea they think oh my kids. Well kid’s can not get into a dispensary whatsoever they can’t even pee in one. They can’t play on the grounds. If a kids playing where a dispensary is then you need to have a conversation with your child about where they are playing being that they are in industrial areas same places where they would put gun stores ect. Warehouses. Yeah kids shouldn’t be playing in that type of environment in the first place. You already have a dispensary and zero has happened with it in all the years it’s been there. It’s just like having a pharmacy on a block. There’s this stigma on cannabis and it’s wrong. If people could take the time and research it then find out what it does for people then they would change their minds. Yeah so what if some like to do it to relax who doesn’t like to relax? Rec is not only people who just want to smoke for the hell of it. It’s also people who can’t afford the medical cannabis card and those who can’t make that tiny government list of conditions they have. Oh other towns have a dispensary. What if these people can’t really travel? What if they are in pain and they’re your towns people and they don’t like 3C shouldn’t they have choices for where they can go? The dispensary is so locked down it’s safer then a bank. All the cannabis is always in a safe. You can’t smoke it in or on the dispensary grounds. They’re very strict about that. Need to be more open minded here. The age is 21 years old to enter.
by (700 points)
@hajj4 I don’t think most peoples’ issue is that they think kids will be in the dispensary. I know that’s not my issue. After living where it was legal my issues run way deeper than that.
by (2.7k points)
@sapota4 yeah I get that as well. It’s been legal for six years this is what people are not getting through the pilot program. What because the people are patients it’s different? We are still smoking it. We are still out in public and we still live life. So then rec comes people flip that was really stupid because it was like people thought patients just stayed at home. No it gave us the freedom to live our lives and we have. Legal issues are like what? You transport it in a dispensary container. You don’t drive high you be smart. Active THC like when you first smoke however you’re going to smoke is only actually active for two hours. So no there’s no true test they can do. For driving. No one is going to let a cop draw their blood I know I’m not. You have to be medical staff especially when I have medical issues. And as messed up and off as their DUI equipment is and how off it is it can’t be trusted anyway. It’s new. Yeah they have to come up with something but their was a report that came out and only two DUI’s were due to cannabis since this year started the other 120 were straight DUI’s so cannabis isn’t the actual problem with DUI’s. Drinking is. That report was on channel 7 news if you need to look it up. I get people fear what they don’t know. Napperville can’t get a handle on people breaking into cars and stealing things. They have more issues than cannabis to worry about. There’s not that many legal issues when it comes to cannabis it’s simple patients can grow up to five plants. If they have any federally funded loans with their home or federal housing they can’t grow. The rules are all written out for everyone to read in the bill.

Thanks for your feedback friends! As a counselor in resident I was interested in people’s perspectives. I also live in Naperville. It’s interesting to hear both sides of the issue! Have a blessed day

I think it would be a great idea. The cons that people are stating are true, however how is it any different from alcohol that you can buy from darn near any store? If you decide to do it, best of luck to you!

What does it matter? They are already going elsewhere to buy it.

It doesn't matter its not like weed never was in town. Your kids buy it from the stoner in school and gets a friends older sibling to buy them alcohol. So if you think it will prevent kids from getting it think again lol.

All for it. What’s the difference if it’s legal in aurora or Romeoville? Do you really think a measly extra 10 minutes will stop anything?   thr answer is hell no. When there’s a will there’s a way . Might As well reap the tax benefits for our city

I say why not. if they don’t get it here they will drive to the next closest one. No harm. Might as well get the tax benefit
