Has anyone given thought to ideas for this summer if, in fact, pools, museums, play places, and summer camps are all closed? I know I might be jumping the gun but this would normally be the time I plan our summer stuff and the unknown is making it all very confusing. Thanks.

Peoria cancelled all summer activities, like recreation sports and public pools. I told my husband last week I don’t think pools and such will open

I always have a running list in my head about what we want to do (movies in the park, concerts, drive in, festivals, city days, etc), but we are not actually planning anything. At the very least, I am planning to tune up our bikes, so we can go on some trails.

I'm assuming everything will be closed. and of not, we won't be going to any. I'm even looking into homeschooling for next year. Deciding to reopen is a combination of health/ safety and economy. so our family will be stricter with the health safety even after we reopen.

@iso525 smart thinking, and we plan to do the same. based on what I see, deaths in IL are worse. over 100/day and that figure is likely higher. Sad situation.

Everything will be closed. No school in the Fall either. Prepare yourselves. This shit is going to go on for a LONG time. We want to get a pool and a trampoline and everything is on back order. I’m spending sooo much money I don’t even have!

@cairns4 what no school in the fall?
by (6.8k points)
@photosensitive my prediction is that students will still be remotely learning until next year. My prediction! The classes sizes are too large for each desk to be 6 ft apart. How will they eat in a classroom? The sweat and airborne droplets in PE class. All of it.

@cairns4 yea I don’t see us going back until January at the earliest. There goes my plan to going back to teaching once my youngest gets to kindergarten  he’s supposed to be finally going to all day kindergarten in the fall. For the first time he would be out of the house all day. But nope this damn virus is ruining all of this.

@eury7 omg I know. It’s awful

I’ve heard of possible scheduling in shifts so your kid goes 2 days a week and then switched to 3 days the following week, so half of the kids are in the school at a time. So class sizes are split in half and allows for enough social distancing. But who knows.

@undertint375 OMG we will just have to wait and see

@undertint375 this is a smart idea. People will change the way they do things, that is for sure. Even before COVID, I'd be scared to go to the movies. seems someone was always hacking or sniffling. Now, I'm so much more aware of it.

I’ve been seeing articles discussing how schools in countries reopening are handling the return. taking temps using infrared thermometers at the door, requiring masks and installing these separators.

@cairns4 about the trampoline and pool can you believe how hard it is to get one!

My daughter ordered an above ground pool because most likely pools will be closed.

We just got a small above ground pool (13 feet) for that reason. I am doubting things will be open.  Hoping we can at least have small playdates by then.

I purchased the inflatable slide from sams club the other day as I believe pools will be closed or not open til later in the summer. I am hoping the zoo and other places with outdoor areas will be able to open but just limit their entry per day so it is safer for people to get out.

At home pools. slip and slides. sprinklers. tons of water balloons. Some sort of water obstacle course in the back yard

Get some PVC Pipes, a drill, pool noodles and make a run thru sprinkler obstacle course for the summer. There won’t be any camps or regular summer activities like we were used to.

I’m looking at some online science camps, and working with my daughter to come up with a list of hobbies, skills she wants to develop. A few ideas are photography, starting a blog, taking an online course, and considering an above ground pool.

I’m realllly hoping the zoo and clubhouse pools still open. There’s never more than 10 people at our clubhouse anyway and the zoo is totally easy to socially distance.

Thanks everyone. I’m not really at a loss for ideas to keep us busy at home - we have lots of that and thankfully my kids are good being outside the majority of the time. I’m talking more about the “big” summer things like camps and pools and outings and vacations. Maybe the answer is just that our summer’s will be simpler and we will all get creative. I think my kids will be fine - it’s me I’m worried about!

@old6623 I’m worried too! I can’t do “home” things the entire summer.

I’m wondering this as well. But I agree that most things will be closed. I’ll be happy if we at least have playgrounds and splash pads!

Berwyn day camps are officially cancelled (through June), and the Westchester pool announced it will not open this summer. Those are the two I know of, but I imagine that will be the trend.
