Making a bucket list for this summer is a challenge, as I am assuming we will be social distancing. Here’s what I have so far. Does anyone have more ideas? -Pokémon go adventures -camping out in the backyard for the weekend -rainy day- make a paper house city -stargazing -s’mores by a campfire -picnic in a park

Have you tried geocaching?

We have been doing this during the pandemic and it has given focus to our hikes. Not all caches have something to trade in them. Small caches usually do not. Finding the cache is often the biggest part of the fun. You have to decide if you are comfortable opening them with coronavirus concerns. I am not super concerned about catching something through contact with items, so we do open them. Many of them have not been found for days or weeks (or sometimes months) before we find them, so not too much of an issue.

@viddah this sounds like so much fun! Is there a specific website you recommend or app?

Geocaching. com is the main one. They also have an app. So you can cache with your phone If you don't have a GPS device. But for apps I like c:geo. It links to geocaching. com and you can search all except the premium caches. Whereas with the other one you have to pay to be able to do some searches in the app so you are limited in the field.

@randolf thanks!

My son paid to have the premium membership ($30 a year) but you can access most with the free membership. It has been fun for us! Our son has taken the lead and finds us a forest preserve to visit with lots of caches.

@flanna good idea!

@xeroderma there is a nature trail and path that goes all around lake Geneva. You could make a day of it. Wisconsin will open soon I’m guessing because they have few cases.

@blair849 this looks great! We made one in a large patio pot and a pesky chipmunk keeps stealing my fairy’s and gnomes! I find them on the sidewalk and in the lawn every darn day!
by (670 points)
@lagena what! I didn’t even think about that. So far it’s been a few days and nothing has been disturbed.

@blair849 I have some pretty brazen creatures over here, a squirrel family that will literally run over my labs when they are sleeping on the patio, birds that will sit on our patio table WHILE we are eating dinner on said table, and the chipmunks, easily 50 of them living in my retaining wall, not afraid of us at all. literally scurry about picking up EVERY dropped morsel from my kids ‍♀️ it’s never ending. and don’t get me started on the opossum family under the shed and the voles by the neighbors house.

I would ! Have you tried a fake owl statue near the patio? My parents have one on their deck railing to scare off the geese and squirrels and it does work.

Please don’t laugh at me. how does Pokémon Go work?
by (2.8k points)
@quintic8 warning. its a rabbit hole. it won't be long thst you are spending $20 for imaginary coins to acquire bigger "backpacks" to carry items and pokemon storage capacity. My 9 yr old wanted to play with friends. dad and mom put it on phone to gain forces for raids (raids gain more powerful characters). You download game, choose a team color (someone else local you would play with? ) And walk/bike/drive around to find characters to put into your pokedex. You earn coins by battling characters in gyms and your character stays in - meaning no one else comes and kicks you out. Basically it becomes a part of your days. if you spin a stop every day you get bonuses. If you catch a pokemon every day, bonuses but only way to get coins is to take over a gym and stay there. I tried very hard to not spend a dime by putting one of my characters in gyms to earn coins to get more storage/space. its impossible.

-Sidewalk chalk paint: corn starch, water, food coloring, baking soda (check Pinterest for recipe)-my teenage girls still like doing it! -Glow pool party: Purchase several 12-packs glow sticks at Michael’s/$1. 50 per pack (they have curbside pick-up); drop them in the backyard pool and voila! Lol -Geocaching is awesome for all ages! -Backyard badminton (nets/light-up birdies for after dark play/rackets at 5 Below & $5 shipping! ) -Hammock for your own reading nook in the backyard or your bedroom ($5 at 5 Below). My teenager LOVES her hammock and so did the younger kiddos) -Trampoline (life saver); Colored chalk drawings, trampoline picnics, trampoline sleepovers, etc. etc. -small, easy garden (even potted garden for herbs, tomatoes) -cloud watching and picking out fun shapes -Midewin Nat’l Tallgrass Prairie (About an hour drive, wide trails for social distance, and herds of Bison)
