My ears are triple pierced. I've been wearing small studs, and rarely take them out. I noticed the last couple days that one of the holes was feeling sensitive. I checked and there's no infection or anything, but I took out all my earrings and swabbed my earlobes with some hydrogen peroxide just in case. I didn't notice this happening when I was constantly wearing hoops. Do you regularly take out your ear piercings? Is there some kind of commonsense rule here that I've just missed out on?

I have multiple piercings in my ears. But one side has 3 and the other 4. I don’t take them out. I put in the screw earrings that have flat backs to them and just clean them while showering. I am allergic to nickel so I used to have irritated ears if I wore earrings that had nickel in it for an extended period of time. I would make sure the ones your leaving in your ears are of great quality like something from your piercer. Not something you get from Claire’s

Yeah, I'm allergic to nickel, too, so I can't wear those kinds of earrings at all. I'm wondering if it might be (as another poster suggested) that I'm wearing the backs too snug. When I was wearing hoops, they were the tiny little ones that don't have any kind of post, they just loop into themselves, and I never had any problem with them. The backs of the studs that I'm wearing in my third piercing keep falling off, so I've been wearing them pushed right up against my ear lobes. I'll let you gals know if I notice a change after wearing them looser! (Also, glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't put them in and take them out every day! )

I'm also going to look into those screw earrings. I've never heard of those before, and they sound like a better option than the studs with the backs you push on. I've noticed that with the same piercing that feels sensitive right now, there's a spot on my head where it looks like the post has, like, poked or scratched it while I'm sleeping. Those flat backs look way more comfortable!

I have 3, and I'm terrible about taking them out! I did switch to the plastic softer backings.

I have white gold diamond studs. I rarely take them out. Every once in a while I will take them out to clean the stones

Always leave mine in. Clean them once in a while mostly when the stones look cloudy. Probably a gross habit but I mean I still shower. I’ve noticed the new studs I bought this year the posts are longer than others I have so sometimes when I sleep they bother me but I’ve gotten used to it. Also sometimes ur lines might hurt if the backs are pushed too tight.

@hammerfest Maybe it is to do with the backs be pushed too tight! The backs of the earrings I've been wearing in my third piercing keep falling off, so I've been pushing them right up against the back of my ear. That's the one (though just on one side) that's been hurting.

@wasp when they reopen, try a jewelry store for better fitting backs. I replaced mine with quality backs for about $25 (I have a nickel allergy so I had to go through a jeweler, but maybe other places offer this too? )

I always leave my diamond studs in my 2nd hole, they're real gold so they don't irritate. But if I leave other earrings in too long, that aren't real gold or silver, that happens.

Hair products can irritate the holes and cause infections
