Get a lice comb from one of the stores. You can use RID, but honestly conditioner with the lice comb should help. You have to comb every inch until you don’t see anymore. Wash bedding and pillows
by (3.5k points)
I have had it several times and have thick hair, just be careful with lice shampoo if you go that route, you can’t leave in too long it burns your scalp

You can treat at home with lice shampoo and lice comb. Yoh need someone to delouse you and be thorough but ut dosen't have to be a stylist. There's also the mayonnaise method. And the vinegar method. I would hit it from multiple angles and make sure to completely clean and disninfect everhthing in your house.

Mayo or coconut oil all over your head. Then put a cap on for hours. It will kill them, then you'll need a comb to get them all out

@told463 a friend of mine did this with her daughter and olive oil. Left a bag on her head for about 8 hours. Totally worked.

Yes. Back before pharmaceuticals were mixing chemicals to purchase. everyone used white vinegar. It kills the eggs and lice all at once because of the acidity. Make sure you cover your eyes with a washcloth. As a camp nurse I always had a gallon of white vinegar! And yes it works. lice have been around forever and that's how they killed them.

Hi-lots of incorrect info here. I have treated lice professionally for 5 years. Please visit our site and see the FAQ section. You will see you don't need to do half the stuff suggested here. You simply need a product with dimethicone oil (lice MD or Nix ULTRA (the ultra part is very important). Get enough oil to apply to everyone in your house. Scalp only. You can comb the eggs out while the oil is in your hair, but the combs they include with the kits are useless. You want a comb called "The Terminator" Ulta or Amazon have them. Saturate everyone's scalp with the oil, let it sit for 30 minutes and re-apply in 7 days. Combing is optional as the oil and the reapplication will kill everything. It's worked for thousands of my clients over the years . 97% effective. Best of luck!

by (440 points)
@kuhn5732 You definitely need to make sure you have enough to treat everyone in your house at least twice. I’d send out a message to close friends to see if anyone has the more effective comb that you can borrow today rather than wait until amazon or ulta ships. I also think I remember seeing a larger Walgreens had the electric one, so I’d call. The pharmacy should allow you to do drive through pickup, especially if you also happen to have an Rx pickup. Just a thought. I’m in Wheaton, but I will look to see if I have the one I ordered years ago if you can’t find another one.
by (2.1k points)
@ignatzia2197 I’m not a fan of the electric one. All she really needs is a dimethicone oil Based product and the Terminator comb. Eady Peezy
by (440 points)
@invoke5728 Michele I think the terminator one is better, but if she had to wait for shipping, I believe the electric one is available to buy at Walgreens and it’s definitely better than the plastic one.

Take a spray bottle and fill with organic apple cider vinegar ( don’t dilute) after shower spray on your roots. Do Not Wash, let it dry. Keep doing it until you don’t see any lice. This is tested and proven!

The prescription meds are not very effective anymore. Google “super lice “. they have mutated and they get less and less effective each year. Permethrin is avail OTC and via prescription and is 30% effective

Idk if it works, but I’ve heard you can do rub olive oil in your hair and cover with a shower cap night. It’s supposed to kill them. Then use a thin comb to get them out. I’d also look on amazon for a live killing shampoo.

Get the Robi Comb! Best thing ever. It’s like a bug zapper. It literally kills them instantly when it hits one on your head. Do this several times a day for a few weeks. With any method you choose, you will be dealing with it for a few weeks anyway.

Ok, I have very long and thick hair and a few years ago my son and I had it  This is how I got rid of it- First of all, bag everything up to suffocate/starve off the lice. Errrtthang. Secondly- if you have it, tea tree oil is your best friend- sprinkle that oil all around your bedding, couches, your entire house basically, lice HATE IT. I went to Walgreens and bought the lice kit with the comb. You will need someone to help you with this, and grab a drink and get comfy Bc you HAVE TO BE METICULOUS with the comb. Then shampoo. Then what I did to be EXTRA sure is I drenched my entire head and hair with coconut oil and left it on for an entire day. The coconut oil will kill anything you might have missed, but you have to be extra with it. Use a lot. Good luck!

Fairy tales and a lice comb. You’re gonna have to do it in small sections starting at the root and I would check every day for the next couple weeks after. Put everything in garbage bags that you’ve touched and vacuum couches, chairs, car and beds. Check everyone you live with too. Ugh. My prayers are with you. Lice is the worst. I’m sorry. I hope this helps and you get rid of it quick.

@kuhn5732 get original Listerine, saturate the hair with it. Put a plastic bag on your hair and leave on for 2 hours. Comb out with lice comb, rinse with water, pour on white vinegar, again put plastic bag, leave for 2 hours, comb out again. If that doesn’t get rid of it all you can get a brand I pasted here. Sold on several websites and Target, Ulta.

Ok listen this is the best advice ever. For everyone out there to this is an amazing trick that will change your life. You could do the kits from the store that is fine but it’s such a pain to get all the nets and everything out after that. The best trick ever is get regular Listerine like the yellow original color saturate your entire head over the bathtub with it and wrap put up into a shower cap for as long as possible hours. Rinse out. Lice nits everything is dead and gone

Soak your hair throughly with olive oil (it suffocates them abs makes it easier to comb out) and leave it on over night. Comb out and rinse. Put hair up and under a cap. Cover pillow with towel Lice have a long life cycle from 21-35 days. So to be safe you should repeat every five days for at least three weeks to make sure they are all dead and gone.

Ive been a stylist for 34 years and thankfully never had to treat this  A friend used vaseline and coated her sons scalp with it and combed it out until the lice were gone Seriously most oils and products clog the hair follicles so using these home remedies may work wonders for lice. Goos luck

This is what i did i did it twice and they were all gone 1) acquire a lice comb 2) heavily saturate your hair and scalp with olive oil, put it in a high bun, and wrap with saran wrap until it’s airtight like even out your ears in there (this suffocates the living lice) and keep it on for four hours 2) rinse your hair off and comb with the lice comb then saturate your hair with apple cider vinegar, saran wrap that, and keep it on for two hours (same amount of time if you want) this gets rid of the lice eggs (nits) and then i continuously combed from scalp to root with the lice comp and kept oil in my scalp (yes it will be greasy) because that prevents the lice eggs from sticking to your hair follicles. i had lice three years ago and this is how i got rid of them. good luck! don’t forget to wash ur sheets/clothes

Prescription from your doctor will save you a lot of the insanity of combing. We used spinosad, worked with one treatment. For anything that can't be washed and dried consider buying permethrin concentrate. Dilute to proper strength and spray on everything. Once dry it is safe to handle.

We had it like twice in 2 years. Girls with long hair. Tried to just comb it out. Didn't quite work, but you do need a *lice comb! * And call Shiny Strands, they're great. But they don't necessarily get it all out, and they don't promise to. Whatever you do, if you think they're gone, like ppl here have said, you need to keep checking every week. They're growth cycle is 7 days, and their life cycle is 30 days. It's hard to check your own hair, is there anyone to help you? I've read that combing with just regular conditioner gets rid of a lot. We tried coconut oil, lice shampoo, and I don't remember what else, but the last 2 things we did before they were totally gone was the original (brown/gold) listerine, (coat hair, wrap up, leave on, comb out) and then sometime after that, *Dandruff Shampoo - Denorex. * The one with coal tar. It kinda tingles/burns, but leave it on as long as you can stand it, and then maybe do the conditioner comb through, cuz your hair will be kinda dry then.

Comb with a good one. $12 on amazon. EVERYDAY. Wash EVERYTHING your head touched on hot. We used Nix and (I know it's gross, but I swear by it) mayonnaise with a grocery sack on your head. It suffocates them. My daughter hated it but loved the shine she got after.

You need to get the lice comb, bc that’s the only thing that gets the eggs. Do a round of nix to kill the bugs but you’ll need to part your hair in small sections and pull it back then start combing. You’ll see the eggs on the comb. You need a white bowl to rinse the comb and eventually you’ll see the tan tiny eggs in the bowl. Then rinse the comb again under the faucet. You’ll also need a spray bottle bc your hair will mostly dry and it needs to be towel dried or wet enough to get the comb from scalp to end. I feel so bad for you! Go to Shiny Strands web site you don’t need to freak out and wash everything bc they die quick with no host. Just pile up your bedding blankets and put them in plastic bag for 24 hrs. Shiny strands has more info. I sat there for 3 hrs and paid over $200 bc I had long thick hair at the time. Good luck!
by (2.6k points)
And you have to comb it everyday for 7 days.
by (1.1k points)
I used to work for a lice company! You can do this! Use the shampoo to kill the bugs first! First, divide your hair into 4 sections( middles part then divide those 2 sides into 2 each). Bun the 3 sections to keep the hair away. Take small sections and start coming! They love behind the ear and nape of neck. You have to comb from all directions! Take your time! Use spray conditioner to help with tangles. We also blow dried the hair after we were done combing-hot as you can tolerate! Cover your head with some oil or mayo and shower cap it for a could hours (not sure if that truly helps or not). Comb your hair for the next seven days. It is tedious, but you can do it!

Get the lice removal kit from Walgreens. Also you can put Vaseline on your hair at night (Smothers them when the eggs start hatching) and wear a shower cap to bed. This will build up and make your hair thick and greasy with the Vaseline but will make the reoccurrence much less likely. I e also heard you can use mayonnaise instead of Vaseline but haven’t heard first hand if that was as effective. Also when my daughter had it we bagged up all the stuffed animals for several weeks and every single day (for probably two weeks) I took every blanket and sheet off her bed and washed them and remade the bed. Pain but I didn’t want it to come back. I didn’t let her sit on the couch either because i didn’t want it getting in there. She got a kitchen chair that she could take in the family room to sit on.
