Anyone got a crazy high meter reading on their Water Bill for January usage? $900 for January alone while February and March came at usual rates $60-$80.

Yes, I did. $948 for the usage under old meter. For the new meter, the cost was $38 for 3 months.

@ban3 ours is 1700 sq feet 2. 5 bathrooms. $185 every quarter. So nervous about the new bill.

@facetiae i received the bill Friday afternoon. I’m going to call and request a payment plan with no fees. I hope the Village will work with me on this request. I’m not trying to get out of paying the bill; I just don’t have almost a grand laying around!

I once had that happened and the village called me. They had replaced the reading thingy. The village said they’d send someone because something was wrong! Turns out they had installed the thingy backwards!

@glassine22071 I'll call them tomorrow and see what's going on, Thanks!

@glassine22071 that happened to me too. They said it was spinning the wrong way. Because the person installed it backwards.

If you don’t check your meter and calculate what you really owe then you may get a high bill. Every time they bill me for less than what we use and I have to pay more. It’s always around $100 a month for water for us.

This happens if for years you never adjusted your bill with the current reading and paid for your actual usage.

I still don't have the new meter. Had a guy come out and tell me he couldn't put it in. Village came out and said nothing was wrong. Went to reschedule but all this Covid craziness started and I don't want some random in my house working at the moment. Waiting for them to really get on my ass about it.

I have to new meter but haven't gotten a bill yet. They had to come back because the person who installed it had put it in backwards.

I talked to the city after my new meter was installed. They explained that with the old meter it was an ESTIMATED reading and charge. If you didn’t send them your ACTUAL meter reading when you paid the bill then when the new meter was installed that discrepancy was finally adjusted. Therefore some people will have a really high bill the first time the meters are read on the new system.

@lurleen470 I always take a pic of my reading & Pay for it in person at the village. I have not had the new meter installed since all this covid 19 happened. are you saying once my meter is installed I should not have a big difference in my bill since I always show the actual reading?
by (960 points)
@bayle yes. At least that was the case for me. We had it installed. They flush the system so we startef with 40 gallons used. I was told by the city that is a very small amout, like less than a dollar or two. When i called the city aftet the installation to ask about the high water bills, she looked up my account and told me we had a small credit because their estimation was more than my actyal read. I got my first water bill thos month and it was under $85. This is actually a little lower than it normally is for us. (Family of 4) the woman at the city i spoke with was very nice and answered all my questions.

Ever since my meter was replaced, our bill has been outrageously high. How do I get a hold of that company?

@thyroid I'd just call the village at 847-588-8030 and start from there. Some comments stated that meters were installed backwards which could potentially cause that.
