I recently started a job at a great Solar companyIf you've noticed, more and more houses are putting in solar panels. That's because State and Federal incentive programs make Illinois one of the best places in the country for homeowners to switch to solar. This means, there are no upfront or installation fees whatsoever. Why solar? Because switching to solar will save you a lot of money on your electric bill, while utility costs continue to increase. Oh, wait, am I forgetting something?!? Yes, I am! Because it's amazing for the environment! It's such an easy way for each of us to do our part in offsetting climate change. Going solar is the equivalent of planting 4, 000 trees! Or eliminating the burning of over 80 tons of Coal! On this Valentine's day, do something nice for the lady who gives so much and asks for nothing in return-- Mother Nature. She deserves it! We can help her! If you are going to put on a new roof soon, it would be worthwhile looking into doing it all at once, perhaps? I got a new roof 2 years ago, and if anything is added (mounted on a roof, etc. ) if will invalidate my roof warranty.

Yes, if you need a new roof soon it is best to do both together. That way you won't need to worry about uninstalling and reinstalling the solar panels. Although even installing on a roof with a few good years left is worthwhile. Are you saying mounting solar panels will invalidate your roof warranty? I haven't heard about that, but you might very well be right. I will look into that.

@palmar my understanding is any modifications- any - where another company is up on the roof, affixing something up there will invalidate the warranty. I paid extra for a 50 year warranty. Though I’d love solar panels.

The Illinois Shines Program is a State Program which is contracted with different solar companies, including ours, to help reduce carbon emissions in the state of Illinois. Not sure they would do this if solar was a scam. There is also a special federal tax credit to incentivize homeowners to switch to solar. Google made a solar calculated called project sunroof to help homeowners calculate savings with solar. Not sure Google would dedicate a whole program for something that didn't work. Solar power isn't a scam. It is being used all over the world as a clean and more affordable alternative to coal. Not sure what you came across on Facebook. But truth is, there are SOME companies that are unscrupulous and are tainting the whole idea of solar by selling to many panels to homeowners or are putting panels on the north facing side of the roof, which are practically a big waste of money, just to make more money. But that is not us. What have you read on Facebook?

We have one of the most rigorous criterion in the industry to assure homeowners save money. I have seen so many panels done wrong, and that really makes me upset. Because they are taking advantage of unsuspecting people who are trying their best to either to lower their electricity bills or help the environment. Honestly, it's disgusting.
