Are we not allowed to talk about the story regarding the couple that was found murdered in their home last night? It was just a few blocks away from me and I'm feeling a little freaked out. I've been in Oak Park four years and this is the first time I've heard anything like this happen

I request that the conversation wait until the police do their jobs. Family and friends are on FB and have been subjected to rumor, guesses, and information that was not yet released to them, about people our block hold dear. The police put out a statement that they do not believe there is a security concern in our community. Here is the official statement. There have been incorrect statements on the news - wrong house, etc.

Ok thanks. I had not seen that statement

@centrobaric30 of course. And I understand people having security concerns as well as just interest. It’s hard to remember that we are in a room with grieving people.

Me too. I don't know whether I should be worried about that happening in the neighborhood again or if this was just an isolated incident. I wish there were more details. Very sad

@centrobaric30I read in another group that there is no danger to the public

Good to know. Do you happen to remember which group or know where more information is available about this? The articles I've read are very limited

@jovi1571 that’s so frustrating. Here you go: Police in Oak Park, along with the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, are investigating the deaths of two people found inside a home in the village. Officials said the deaths are considered to be under “suspicious circumstances. ” On Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed the identities of the couple as Thomas E. Johnson, 70, and Leslie Ann Jones, 67. According to sources and their business website, they were partners in the downtown law firm Johnson, Jones, Snelling, Gilbert & Davis. Johnson’s bio on the site said he founded the firm in 1984. Johnson served since the 1990s as a hearing officer for Chicago’s police disciplinary panel, acting as a quasi-judge who presides over police disciplinary hearings — trials for Chicago police officers fighting the most serious allegations of misconduct that could lead to firings or lengthy suspensions. Over the years, Johnson oversaw some of the city's most high-profile disciplinary hearings.

@kipton45 I'm so sorry. Please let me know if there is anything i can do

Thanks @iso525. We adore this couple but there are people on this block that have lost the equivalent of a close family member. If you, and everyone on here, can help ensure dignity and patience, while understanding some need for information and discussion (hopefully later) it would do such a world of good.

@kipton45 of course.

I believe this was a isolated incident. And the police said it was suspicious.  Its a sad situation but I don't thing we need to be worried, this is definitely not the norm in our community. Praying for the family and our community

I just read on the internet, one of the news outlets released their names. Not sure if they are correct, but the statement said “police did not confirm the identity but sources who knew them identified them to reporters. ”. I hope all their family and friends found out first before finding out online. This is so sad and I pray for their friends and family.
