I’m considering looking into becoming a part-time travel agent for a side hustle. Does anyone have any experience in this field and/or input?

I travel 5-7 months full time out of the year and have done so for the past 12 years and never ever used a travel agent. I think it's a pretty small industry by now but I also know that my parents used one for their African safari. I don't think it is quite dead but you need to find a niche market that is difficult for the average person to do on their own. Safaris, vegan tourism, LGBTQ tourism, and other special interests are a niche that needs to be filled I think. However, to do this you need local partners on the ground in country and a deep knowledge of your niche such as when to go where to see specific animals, etc. Maybe find an existing tour agency and ask if they would consider part the work while you learn the industry.

My wife tried it and failed miserably a few years ago because of sites like Priceline and others. On a side note we got a “free” cruise of the ordeal. We had to pay for airfare, taxes and gratuities but the rest was free.
