Looking to make an extra $2k a year from home. Educate me on what you do and HONESTLY how successful your home based business is. Pros and cons. Preferably no up front risk. If it's selling product, something that actually works. Does this exist?

Aim for a bigger number heheh <3
by (2.2k points)
@ventriloquism I mean, I'd love more. But, with the kids being young and full of obligation, I'm shooting for the need and any excess is a bonus.
by (12.1k points)
@baldridge9 get a circuit, and make custom shirts and stuff. its fun and you can make your own hours, do the work after kids go to bed. just an idea. Dont do color street. there are many freaking reps, and how do you choose 1 friend to represent for that lol
by (12.1k points)
I know how long they take :) I help run my aunts sign shop, shirts and yada yada. we are wwaayyy beyond circuits lol 6 foot printers and cutters, inventory is crazy to keep track of. Graphic wrapping semis and firetrucks. I help her with shows.
by (1.6k points)
@baldridge9 I do agree you need to aim for more. I was able to make that much in a single month after just a few short months working from home with a newborn and one-year-old. I shared below

I resell my son’s stuff on Kidizen. I’m not an aggressive seller - mostly, I use it as an excuse to buy him more expensive items than I otherwise would. But girl’s clothes sell better and if you’re a big thrifter, you can probably do more. I make less than $2k/year (I think ~$1300? ) but there are people who make a lot more. If you’re interested, I can send a referral code that gets you something.

I used to sell pampered chef. It was pretty good income - really was about the effort you put in but I didn’t feel like it such a push to “promote” or build a team like it works and plexus does. (I’m sure I will receive a bunch of hate but it’s the truth)! I made a descent amount but I didn’t put in a ton of effort either. I’ve seen close friends be very successful with it!
by (630 points)
@lorin I love pampered chef, I have all my things from 20 years ago still! Funny I was just wondering about the company recently because I never hear anyone talk about them anymore
by (550 points)
@pyne it’s still around and doing great! They have tons of new products as well! I no longer sell pampered chef but I wish I did - can’t go wrong with a couple parties a month and extra income!

I watch kids out of my home
by (2.2k points)
@matinee7 I considered this but ultimately cant. Between my daughters preschool drop off, pick up, other obligations and lack of car space for another car seat, it just wouldnt work out.
by (4.2k points)
@baldridge9 I was worried about the same thing but I make about $1k/month so we upgraded cars and got an extra car seat
by (2.2k points)
@matinee7 I'll look into it again. We own our cars outright so it would be taking on a car payment too. But maybe we can make it work.

I am a Rodan & Fields consultant. I was making that much in a matter of 3 months when I was actively involved in it while being a single mom and working a full-time job. I now put little to no effort into it and still make more than $2K/year from it. Happy to answer questions if you're interested. Oh, and yes, the products definitely work and I use them myself.

by (2.2k points)
@decry I did it works a while ago and am not interested I'm going back to it. It was perfect for when I was in it but I dont think it's right for me anymore.
by (580 points)
No worries! Thought I would share what I do .
by (2.2k points)
@decry I appreciate it! I saved a bride on her wedding day once with a wrap  I was working at a well known hair salon. She got her hair and makeup done. She got her dress on in our spa, but it wouldnt zip! She was panicking. I told my manager that I could get her into that dress and asked if he would give me permission to do so. He hesitated but agreed. I wrapped her back. 45 minutes later we zipped her dress.

Woot woot heck yea

Itworks is the worsttttttt, trying to make women believe by putting saran wrap and prep h on their bodies to loose fat is the dumbest thing ever, it's been proven to be a complete joke. please dont' sell any of these "magic weight loss fantasies"
by (580 points)
Nina, obviously working out and eating better foods is the most better options but we do have other plant base products now that isn’t just the wrap. I personally see the results so I like them

I have a couple in home jobs - one is selling on eBay which makes a bit but honestly is a big pain in the ass (but regardless I’m happy to help you get started or answer questions! ) and the other is selling for Keep Collective/Stella & Dot/EVER skincare. It’s a whole family of brands so it’s pretty awesome because there is something for everyone. I make about 25k a year although I work it a lot(all from home with my kids). That being said, I’m in my 3rd year with the company. In my first year I think I averaged around $300 a month give or take. Direct sales can be great but you have to find a product you can passionately get behind and a company you love. That’s SOimportant. It can’t just be anything, there has to be a connection. Please let me know if I can help even if you’re not into my company. I would love to see you succeed - I’m super passionate about supporting local female entrepreneurs!

by (2.2k points)
@mycah @yolande73913 I dont have the ability to leave the home to work without the kids. My husband works basically 80 hours a week and my kids are 1 and 3. My oldest is in half day preschool 3 days a week and soon to be 4. I'm unavailable to look for a "normal job" right now. I have 5 years of experience working at mario tricoci. I have 8 years of experience managing dental offices and doing office integration and training for a dental corporation.

I’m a Color Street Stylist and a Tori Belle Consultant! They are both young great companies with a lot of room for growth with products you cannot help but fall in love with! Color street is a fantastic product, 100% nail polish no tools needed and no dry time cost is $11-14 per set which gives you 2-3 full manicures that last up to 14 days. no dry time. need I say more moms! Tori Belle Cosmetics has patent pending magnetic eyelashes that you need to see it to believe it! They are so easy SO EASY safe and so beautifully life changing! They are reusable up to 30 wears each with a style for anyone! Very reasonably priced compared to lash extensions. I couldn’t sell both of these products without believing in them and absolutely loving them! I make well over 2k a year selling these 2 products, let alone just 1, you definitely need to put a little effort into it to get what you want. You can make just enough to support your own habit for the product, pay a small bill a month, car payment or pay for vacations! Let me know if you want to chat more

I also have a small side biz that I love! I actually have always sold one product or another and LoVE it! :)) Sometimes two different companies at the same time. It brings in more “fun” income is what we call it My hubby and I both work but my job is part time at night for a couple hours so if I wasn’t busy enough with 3 kiddos this definitely keeps me busy but like I said it’s what I’ve always done and love it. I could definitely use another couple people on my team and help get you started if your interested? I would never sell a product I didn’t believe in, I’m obsessed actually! I sell lots and get paid every Thursday, money goes to my “work card” or you can send it to bank account, also my company does lots of fundraisers and gives back to awesome charities ❤️ You could even do a couple if your serious about this, they are easy to run and most products sell themselves:)

For the past 13 years I’ve worked from home referring others to shop for safer everyday products at an online wellness store. It made sense to me because everyone buys and needs these products monthly so no new money spent from budgets, just switching stores. No inventory, delivering or taking payments. True residual income with 96% reorder rate. I also partner with non profits through the company which has been very rewarding.

Go through your house and sell anything you don't use/want, start babysitting on Friday nights or as a drop in sitter where it's just as you need the money. You are only wanting to earn about $200 a month, that's not worth investing into a MLM.

If what I needed was to find $2, 000 more per year, I’d look closely at my budget to see if anything could be cut. Over a whole year maybe I could cut $2, 000.
by (12.1k points)
@rubberize oh that's a good recommendation
by (2.2k points)
@rubberize great suggestion but this isnt an option for us. My daughters education will be 2500 more next school year than this and that's nonnegotiable. Also I need a family gym membership for medical reasons. These are all expensive additions to our life. It's either he makes more money or I do. He just got a promotion and raise and already works 80hrs and cant take on more of the load.
by (150 points)
@baldridge9 you could look into some insurances help to cover gym rates and sometimes even free gym memberships
by (2.2k points)

Couponing. can help I saved 30%-50% on shopping everytime I went. NO, I don't have hoards of crap in my basement . I also never bought more than 3 of any item. I would buy EVERYTHING for the house from apples to windex. Once it rang up over $1000 I paid only $514. 00 It does take TIME & PATIENCE.
by (2.2k points)
@manamanacle781 with my medical issue, we have to buy very specific items. I can't eat 98% of what's in a normal grocery store. Im complicated, I know. Which is why we can't really cut costs. I'm eager and willing to do the work to make the extra 2k and certain I can accomplish it.

I am a Color Street stylist and I absolutely love it! You can do with it whatever you would like. You can just sell to your friends and family or you can go as far as doing vendor events and having a huge group to sell to. This is something that you can totally do if your looking for just supplementing you’re income for 2k. Our products are super reasonably priced at $11-13 so they are affordable for people. And honestly the product sells itself once someone puts it on their finger. If your interested in more information please pm me and I’m happy to chat about it. No pressure of course

I normally don’t talk about this and platforms like this because I get so much hate and unfair judgement of my character, but this is the reality of my life. Almost 6 years ago I tried something natural for my then babies, and decided to use essential oils in our home. It’s been a slow and long process to learn about the toxins that were hidden in our home, and to switch over to all natural products. Every little thing that I learned along the way I shared, and I am dedicated to educating people on toxins in their home, and I share what works for us. I don’t carry any inventory, I only invested $150 initially to start this business, I don’t sell products, and I’m not a sales person. That is a huge misconception because when people hear the word MLM and Young living… It’s like I immediately have a target on my back. But it’s about your heart posture, your intentions, and your approach. I never went into this thinking I wanted to make money and sell things to people. I don’t sell YL products to people, but I do make money. My heart and my drive every day is to love everyone and to help people, however that may look. It happened to surround me with a community of very positive like-minded people and has replaced my six-figure income salary as a stay at home mom.
by (1.6k points)
I think the reason most people are attracted to young living, and actually stay with it as an mlm is because It’s a consumable product. It’s not something tangible that just sits and collects space in your house. It’s something that people use, and replace some thing they are currently using, mostly toxic from the store… That they will refill and keep using, and it’s not limited to a certain gender or age or condition like weight loss, bad skin, etc… But it covers all ages all genders, and a multitude of things like colds, seasonal ailments, aging, metabolism, cleaning, calming, skin, babies, pets, digestive system, immune system. every body system, laundry, focus, energy, . There are a lot of things I cannot say due to compliance, but once people decide they want to use high-quality plant juice instead of multi ingredient toxic products…It’s extremely easy to affordably switch over to Young living oils and products for practically everything, all aspects of life

Honestly I don't think anyone really does with MLM's. They will tell you they do. I'd bet they spend more on those products then they make.
by (2k points)
@monday @michaeline24 My company is an MLM. I’ve been doing it for three years. And I have friends who have done it for far longer Not all MLM’s are the same. You have to do your homework (which I did) Forbes has praised as multiple times and Harvard business school studied us. Our business model is phenomenal. We have an A+ rating with bbb And 80% of the company’s $$ comes from product sales (NOT its consultants) My company was the top seller in high end retail stores like Nordstrom but the doctor’s vision of reaching the masses wasn’t happening behind the glass shelves. They bought back their company from Estee Lauder and put it in the hands of people like me. We are $1 billion company; in 3, almost 4 countries. You could become a consultant between $45 - $1000 There’s a 60 day moneyback guarantee on all products sold as well as business kits (no risk) I don’t keep inventory or ship and there are no quotas to sell I’ve also made money every single month since the start with Rodan+Fields and that’s even when doing it alongside of my full-time teaching position. Just saying mlms have a bad rap Because of a few bad companies. Not all are the same. @baldridge9
by (2.2k points)
@platoon which company?
by (2k points)
@baldridge9 Rodan+Fields (skincare that actually works or get your $$back)

@monday honest mistake which I’ve rectified. I don’t want to get an argument on social media. All I’m asking is that if you don’t know the facts then don’t say anything at all. I do. I’ve been to the conferences. I personally know hundreds of women whose life has been incredibly blessed through this business. You shouldn’t tear down or instill fear simply because you lack first hand knowledge. Assumptive words like “probably” should not be shared.

Speaking from experience, find something you are passionate about and go from there. MLMs are AMAZING! That being said it’s a lot of work. Anything worth having requires hard work and sacrifice. If you are up for that challenge then I strongly encourage you to find a product you love and jump in both feet! People say you exhaust your friends and family within 1-2 years and while that may be so, social marketing is a SOCIAL business! You have to be willing to make new friends, build new relationships, pour into others, and be an encouragement to those people! This is where you will find it’s less “work! ” It requires personal growth, a shift in your mindset, and letting go of caring what others think, but i promise it will be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling career choices! The sky is the limit with social marketing which makes it truly AMAZING!

I agree with Stephanie! I hate when people pop on about mlms are garbage. Then either A you haven’t done one or B you’ve done the wrong one and it didn’t work for you. They aren’t garbage because I can do as much or as little as I would like. I made $13, 000 last year selling my mlm product that I love and that was only selling for 10 months not even a full year. I invested $129 to start and make cash aside from that number as well‍♀️. You get out of it what you put into it. So if anyone would like to learn how I made that much money selling my product I’m happy to chat. @baldridge9 I hope you find something to fulfill the small amount of per month income your looking for but please make sure it’s something your are passionate about because that’s what sells the product for you ❤️
