I'm so confused.  Illinois lawmakers passed the bill to do away with Daylight savings in Illinois.I'm so confused. Illinois lawmakers passed the bill to do away with Daylight savings in Illinois. Yet when I talk to other people, they say we will be springing forward March 8th. Is this then the LAST time? When you google it, it shows the law passed. Anyone know? ‍♀️

Illinois passed this bill but Congress still has to approve. I believe there are many other states waiting as well for their Bill to pass. I don't know if it's gonna actually pass Congress this year

You will spring forward and stay there this march.

Yes, this has not yet been approved by Congress. It would be nice if it was! ☀️

We are springing forward but then we are done

It hasn't actually passed yet. It would have to be passed by both houses, and signed by the governor in order for it to be a law, and go into effect. Once, those things have been done, then we would no longer spring forward and fall back.

It passed in the Senate but would need the House to approve it, as well. I haven't heard when it is going to be voted on.

Oh my gosh, everyone saying we don’t have to fall back in November please know it has not passed in Congress. There’s going to be a lot more confusion this fall in Plainfield! Lol!

It hasn’t passed congress yet. If it passes, once we spring forward this year, we won’t change clocks again.
by (7.8k points)
Here’s what the bill is currently doing. Lol. .

@guarneri LoL. It passed the senate but now it’s been sitting in the house waiting for a vote.

It also has to be approved in Washington once it passes the house and the governor signs it. The Uniform Time Act was passed, in Washington, in 1966 and this would violate that. Therefore- it is ultimately up to Washington to give their ok.

I’m all for the not changing times in fall but we all gotta remember that come next winter it will not start getting light until 8am which will be weird but ‍♀️
by (1.4k points)
It was rough. My high schooler gets on the bus at 6:30, so it was pitch black outside before the time change.
by (1.6k points)
@midinette532 now the middle schoolers will be in pitch black and the littles it will just be getting light
by (1.6k points)
@guarneri now i don’t know hahah i got myself confused.
by (1.4k points)
We fall back because of the light. Years ago my friend told me they tried this when her children were young. She said it never stuck because it was too dark for all of the kids and caused too many issues.
by (1.6k points)
@guarneri yes it would be dark. Cuz right now at 7am it’s just getting light, so really it would be 8am next year at that time so it would just be getting lifht
by (1.6k points)
@guarneri u almost had me hahah! It’s confusing but i always think about that when I’m driving. I drive a school bus
by (1.4k points)
Honestly the only reason why it stood out to me so much is because once my freshman walked past the corner to the bus stop I couldn’t see him. Cars don’t like to stop at the stop sign there either so I was praying for the time change so everything was more visible for everyone.
by (1.6k points)
@midinette532 it’s still gonna be dark for them. It’s gonna be darker longer in the am. But we will have more light in the afternoon.
by (2k points)
@caernarvonshire3 I would take it being a bit darker in the am for more light in the evening. ‍♀️

@spitz7408 ohhh meee tooo! I hate feeling like bed time at 6

Don’t hold your breath, people. This must be approved at the federal level, and many other states have been waiting for years. Doubt it’ll ever happen.
by (570 points)
@guarneri only Arizona. From google- Arizona observed DST in 1967 under the Uniform Time Act because the state legislature did not enact an exemption statute that year. In March 1968 the DST exemption statute was enacted and the state of Arizona has not observed DST since 1967. This is in large part intended to conserve energy. Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) is the only state in the contiguous U. S. that does not observe daylight saving time. Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas are among the states trying to observe year-round standard time.

Its going to be confusing for my work, all the other states in our region will be on a different time than us, this will make scheduling inspections very difficult.
by (1.6k points)
@rozina my mom lives in Arizona and times never change for her. U just get use to it. Eventually everyone will be on the same time
by (2k points)
@caernarvonshire3 oh I agree, we already have a problem in our Indiana office because part of the state does daylight savings and other other part doesnt. But our region covers as far west as texas and as far east as Georgia so some are on eastern time zone but still we know they are always an hour ahead no matter what, it will be weird for our Illinois inspectors who have to travel to Wisconsin or Iowa afterwards when they will be on a diff time, I'm sure it will be fine once they get used to it but I foresee a lot of inspectors being late lol. Personally I dont care either way, I leave early enough that it's dark regardless, I actually dont mind the dark at night only because in the summer it's such a pain getting my kids to go to bed cause its light out, they dont think its bedtime, and sadly they still have to go to bed during summer cause I work so they are at daycare by 6am just like school, it's better now that they r older but they used to argue with me and said it cant be bedtime it's still light out! Lol

This is ridiculous lol. Literally the LAST thing I’ve ever worried/thought about‍♀️There’s SO many actual important things to worry about.
by (4.1k points)
@tautonym Multiple things can be discussed/thought about at once. Super cool concept.
by (520 points)
@karttikeya maybe you shouldn't be a smartass and let people have their own opinion. "SUPER COOL CONCEPT" you know thinking for yourself and not following the herd. you sheep! Lol. @tautonym people are just asshats and like to worry about stupid shit!
by (4.1k points)
@falsehood121 Huh? I think you misread Jennifer’s comment and meant to reply to her smartass comment saying the OP is basically dumb for having an opinion and concern about DST. But nice try girlfriend.
by (4.1k points)
@falsehood121 And why is yours or Jennifer’s concern what people worry about? Pot meet kettle. Weird flex but you do you.

From my understanding, our clocks went back in the fall so we will "spring forward" an hour and THEN that's it from here on out ‍♀️ I could be wrong but that is what I gathered
by (1k points)
@percutaneous8 I heard this same thing.
by (7.8k points)
@percutaneous8 that is correct if it ever passes the House and the Federal government’s approval. I posted the bill proposal in the comments above.

One state could not do this alone. Think about it.
by (7.8k points)
@fino arizona and Hawaii both did.
by (1.6k points)
@fino yes they can. Look at Arizona
by (570 points)
@caernarvonshire3 AZ adopted that in the 60’s, and it’s not even the entire state. Hawaii adopted it in the 50’s.
by (1.6k points)
I know. My mom lives there. @fino is saying one state can’t do this alone. but obviously it can is what I’m saying
by (1.7k points)
There are counties in IN that also dont use DST. It happens.

The law goes into effect after we spring forward so we will have more sunlight year round.

Well I blame the media outlets that are announcing this is a done deal when it’s not!

by (3.2k points)
@guarneri ‍♀️46 years and absolutely never thought twice about this lol.
by (3.2k points)
@guarneri idk it’s an hour never made a difference to me. I actually like the one night of an extra hour of sleep(I try my best not to let the little things get in my mind and take over)

It won’t be enacted because no one can decide whether to stay on DST or Standard Time. Some states are asking for permanent DST, others are asking for permanent Standard Time. We are on Standard Time now

Isn't that the dumbest thing you have ever heard? Are we running out of this to make into laws? I think not. Illinois has such bigger problems. I'm just saying!
by (3.2k points)
@medieval correct. Seriously it’s an hour‍♀️We’ve dealt with it fine all these years lol. And watch out I got called names for saying this was ridiculous and we have more important things to worry about
by (670 points)
@tautonym I think that the fact you got called names is stupid too. The world is made of all kinds.

How does this give us more daylight ? Do they control the world to just keep it positioned ? Isn’t this why we have daylight savings time is because of the way the world tilts . Honestly I always thought so anyway . Could be wrong

If it's not broke than why are we fixing it. We have been doing this for so long and it does help with the darkness in the morning and give us an hour more light for our families outside in the spring and summer. Having the different time zones are helpful unless we just have the same time everywhere. Until then good luck @rozina and others who deal with multiple states in their businesses. That would be nuts. In the meantime ladies, let's try to make the world a better place and support each other instead of judging, breaking down, and being condescending to each other. The world is crazy enough. Be kind, be supportive, agree to disagree, and teach our children to do the same. We can control our actions. Sending kind thoughts. Happy Tuesday!

I think DMV will tell us what the deal is with DST when we go for our “Real ID”.
