Random: any moms ever coach their kids softball team? Is it typically the dad's out there? I played for about 13 years and would love to coach my girls, but I know when I played it was really only the dad's out there. Has that changed? Would you think it's weird for a mom to be out there?

It’s 2020. I don’t think it’s weird for women to be anywhere. Places and roles aren’t defined by gender.

@codex4741 well part of your question was if we thought it would be weird, hence my answer.  I’d hope you wouldn’t feel like you can’t coach regardless if other women are out there or not.

I coached softball when in high school before I even had kids, most places are grateful just to have volunteers willing to coach.

My daughter has a mom and a dad coach (not married, two separate parents) and LOVES it- it’s a great dynamic for the girls- like good cop/bad cop and they switch off!

We had a mom coach my sons baseball team! She was awesome! She was organized, firm and also compassionate. We need more women coaches out there! I would, but I literally know nothing about baseball or softball.

@rhizopod Rhys was on a team a couple of seasons ago and a Mom of one of the boys was one of the coaches as well! It was our favorite season!

When my daughter did baseball, there was a mom coach on another team, with the majority of players being boys. In my opinion, as long as you’re committed and either knowledgeable or willing to learn the sport, Coach. If you can’t coach, help out in some way! My husband has been coaching my son in baseball for over nine years and there’s always a decline in parent involvement. Nobody wants to do it anymore, so if you’re able and willing, do it! The older they get, the harder it is to find people to volunteer.
