Question

I need a birth certificate for one of my kids. I also need a kid passport by July. Anyone know the absolute best way I can do either?

Hi. Passport you can get expedited and for birth certificate I believe you have to contact the county clerks office.

What county was your child born in? Check their website and see if they are accepting online requests, also some post offices are still doing passport applications

You'll need to go through the county clerk's office for the birth certificate, and will need it before the passport. Depending on the county, they may not be open right now. I'm also fairly certain they will accept your passport application, but that they aren't being processed right now due to the pandemic.

@phenylketonuria10 this is as far as I’ve gotten too. I know what to do under normal circumstances but the pandemic is screwing me all up.

@repetitive call the will county health department (if they were born in Will county). I just got my daughters birth certificate. They were very helpful. I needed to fill out a form and email the form and a copy of my id, they took my credit card over the phone and are mailing the certificate in the mail today.

I work for a congressional office (although I am not the staff member that handles passports). It's my understanding that they are only issuing passports in documented cases of basically life and death. We are still on travel alert 4, which limits travel internationally.

@phenylketonuria10 What do you think travel will look like in July? I have a paid trip to Jamaica planned that I'm stressing about getting passports for.

@repetitive I can't tell you what things will look like in July, but you do have plenty of time to get a passport (in normal times at least), especially if you pay the expedite fee. I don't think they will process it right now based on paid travel though. Generally speaking, passports can get done very quickly. I know that the airline has to at minimum let you reschedule flights if you're not able to go, but I don't know that the resort would have to work with you since they aren't in the US.

I applied for my sons passport the first week of March and I still haven’t gotten it. I thought I would since I applied before they stopped processing but I guess not.

Same as above. We applied beginning if March and still have not gotten them. They are still processing but at a slower rate and there was a sign that expedited passports were not being done according to the post office. Birth certificates get mailed pretty quickly though.

Order the birth certificate online. As for the passport I went to get them done first week of March and still not processed. Good luck
