Why do people knock instead of ring the bell? We have had the doorbell since July and I can count on one hand how many times people have used it. Its right out there in the open so not like they can't see it. I feel like I need to put a sign up that says doorbell DOES work! lol

On the other side of the coin, I'm an in home design consultant (by appt only not cold calling) for a window and door company and you would be surprised how many people get upset when you ring the doorbell. Some people have a sign up asking to knock only and some request it when making the appointment. Apparently it drives the dogs crazy, wakes the baby etc etc. Almost every training that I've been in for in home sales teaches not to ring the doorbell. I don't agree with it as every time I knock dogs go crazy anyway lol.

Se people think the doorbell cam only activates when you pressed the button.

Yep same here and it's exactly because of what was said above, they think it's not recording them or they think, I don't need to ring it because they already saw me on cam.

Most people assume you already know when they are walking up

If they assume we already know they are there, why bother knocking?

Same here lol. They just don't think they are being recorded if they don't hit the doorbell. :)

I think salesman like to knock loudly to make sure you hear. That's why they open your storm door to knock on the wood door behind. That's my theory.

Since an indoor chime is optional and they think you pay about as much attention to your phone as my mom does when I’m having a crisis and need her to answer. FFS Mom

Mine do ring the doorbell, I guess they don't think the 4 cameras that light up on their way to the front door don't notify me someone is coming.

Because we have a doorbell and a camera, plus 2 dogs . I don't mind if they knock instead of ring. The camera above garage will notify me that someone is approaching - and when ANY notification sounds off my phone, the doggies will too. :P

I have had a Ring doorbell for about 9 months and It has only been rung about 4 times, everyone else knocks on the door, can't work out why either !

They probably assume if they don't ring, they won't be captured on camera. I've noticed same.

That’s happened to me. When they knock, I talk to them through the doorbell. LOVE doing that.

It's a people thing. Sometimes I think they're unsure of where the button is.

I think the LED ring should light up when motion is detected.

I put up a sign "Solicitors do not push door bell" so they would knock on door.

If you have the peephole cam, it rings the doorbell whether they push the button or knock. The knock sensor works great!

Yes, that's the truth, they never ring the ring door bell or the regular door bell? My sensor on the door bell ring always picks up the motion, so I know someone is there or was there, you gotta be fast though to catch them at the door, l they move fast (Delivery People).

Put a floodlight cam at the front door. Next.
