I'm coming to the conclusion that this Ring doorbell pro was a huge waste of my money! The whole purpose of getting it was to be able to see if anyone came up my driveway and to my door. But what do I get? Every car going up and down the road 30 yards from my Ring, but nothing when I pull in and out of my driveway or any company who pulls in and out.

Contact support. They'll send you a new one. My pro works 100% of the time. My 2 was junk and worked as you describe but the pro is excellent in comparison.

@fairtrade I have the pro

Yes, you mentioned that. I have a pro too.

I’ve not had a problem with mine. Perhaps adjust your sensor area and then sensitivity.

There is a way to send it to people only

I just saw your other post. Firstly, I don't think you picked the right product for what you wanted to accomplish. You'd probably be better off with something like a floodlight camera instead, that would mount above your garage. But, I do wonder if you set your motion zones on the Pro?
by (1.1k points)
@koweit2699 I'd move that back just a bit. It looks like it isn't on the road in that picture, but I've found it seems to like the dot you get where you're supposed to touch to move the zones as it's limit, and not the line. Also, have your tried clicking the people only mode?
by (1.1k points)
@pentosan53231 I was going to suggest that too, but I don't think it's going to help her much since it's such a small zone to start. The thing is, she wants to catch vehicles and people in her driveway, the doorbell isn't going to do that with that view.
by (1.1k points)
@pentosan53231 yup, which is why my original comment was that I don't think she bought the right product for what she wants to accomplish, and that the floodlight camera would be better suited.

@koweit2699 u would have to hit that corner of driveway perfect in order to pick up motion, zone it up more

Because this.

No issues with ours. is it a wifi issue? We have a booster outside.

Sorry to hear that. I have the Pro and I'm amazed at the People detection setting. Mine was picking people walking down the road past my house some 60'+ away. No issues with passing cars at all. I had to adjust the zones to get fewer alerts and it's now working great. Good luck getting it figured out.
by (460 points)
@pandybat I have the zone from my driveway to my front door. The road is not even in my zone. The sensitivity is also turned low. I've talked to support and no help so far.
by (210 points)
I have mine set to people only mode in motion settings. You can not adjust the sensitivity with people only mode. Try that setting and see if it helps.
by (460 points)
@pandybat but wouldn't that eliminate cars coming into my driveway?
by (210 points)
@koweit2699 yes. I would rather know if a person is walking around my property vs. someone turning around in my drive. That's just me. I have a wyze cam set up for other motion that covers the driveway. You need to try out the different settings and see which works for your situation.
by (460 points)
@pandybat I've tried every combo of settings. I'm going to give customer support one more try.

I am running a 2 and am very satisfied with the improvements they have made with sensitivity and zone control. It is rare now that I get an alert from cars passing by in the street. I suspect you just need to adjust your zones and sensitivity in the phone app it works better than the on on my pc. Call support if in doubt they are very good.

That’s exactly why I got rid of Ring and got Nest. Not only would it pick up every car, but it would only detect people once they turned to walk away. What good is that!?

You may need to adjust your settings.

Understand what you bought and how the technology works. Passive IR with RVD1 and RVD2 is total trash for anything related to person or animal detection. How do you fix that? You run the thing like a motion detector and capture EVERYTHING. It's the best in the world and I LOVE IT!
by (460 points)
@fairtrade Finn I've done that, and I've set motion low. Still picks up cars far away, but not close in my driveway.
by (150 points)
@koweit2699 Yup. That's what passive IR does. You'll have to go with the pro to stop that i'm apartment living, I see my neighbors but I get everything else.

She has the Pro.

@fairtrade Finn The Pro does the same crap.

I have start having the same problem. But when I first got it it was great.
by (460 points)
@sulla exactly, worked great when I first got it. One morning I saw I had a package on my porch as I was backing down the driveway, that I got after I has gotten home (seems UPS and FedEx can't be bothered to ring doorbells anymore) anyway, I pulled back up, got out of the car, walked up to the porch to pick it up all in full view of the camera, and nothing on the Ring. Makes it hard to trust it.

@koweit2699 I just went into my settings. They have made changes. Check yours.

This is a relatively new phenomenon with Ring doorbells. I have mine set to "People only mode. " I receive alerts for every car that drives down the road. This started within the past two month.

Adjust your settings and also the angle of your sensor. Ring is great just gotta make sure its set up correctly.

I had to read all the comments and I can’t believe that NOBODY got a correct answer for you  In your case, you’ll not get perfect motion notification BECAUSE subjects are coming straight TOWARD the camera. Motion notification works better when subjects going from Left to Right or from Right to Left. That’s the reason you see cars or anything crossing your camera. It’s not a Ring problem. That’s just the way this crappy motion technology works. *If Possible, reinstall your camera a little bit on the side, tweak the settings and you’ll see the difference

I just went into my settings on my 2 cameras and ring did an update adding things I was aware of. my doorbell wasn't picking up people because it was turned off. If I have it set the way I want it I want it to stay that way.

Mine works great on People Only, and I have my zones set.

I tilted mine down, lowering the focal point and now I get less false alerts. Unless its leave falling season and then I get massive alerts every time a leave falls. lol!

Try the other popular brand. people detection is way better, and never miss an important event, and no longer being alerted for cats, or cars, etc. I still have Ring products for the other parts of the house.

Try changing the angle down to the edge of the sidewalk or curve, and as mentioned before, give a side angle as well.

My original Ring Doorbell would do that. Just installed the Pro and it solved that problem.

***UPDATE*** Hopefully problem solved. I talked at length with customer support. They changed the frequency and so far it's finally working the way it's supposed to. Thank you to all who responded.

Gotta adjust the sensitivity and the trigger areas. It’s a couple of settings. As a bit if advice, though. it’s better to record too much than too little. But you may not want a notice pushed out every time it records.

Wow I was going to buy the ring doorbell but after reading all the comments I don't think I will get one after all. I have the ring floodlight camera and it just stopped working one day and I have called customer service reps and they said it's my internet service so I called my carrier and they came to check my wifi internet connection and everything is fine it's at 100% working conditions so now i have the floodlight camera that doesn't work so i thought maybe the doorbell unit but i changed my mind after reading these comments thank you for helping me make up my mind.
