I hate to sound petty here, but it’s almost March of 2020. When are we going to have the option to extend motion and/or ring event recordings? I have been needing this feature since I got my doorbell years ago. I would really like an option for record until motion stops.

I don't think it will happen. Why, because they hold this stuff on their servers and that would require a tremendous amount of cost and setup. If you haven't seen it years, you probably won't see it by now

@joey6 They could if they reduced the retention time.

If you want long recordings, invest in cctv with movement alarms. I have both ring and cctv. Ring for the doorbell and the cctv to be notified of unwanted intruders that also records 24/7/365.

@martell What cctv system do you use? There are so many on the market that I get decision paralysis.

Have a look at the HikVision kit  Some companies will do a deal if you buy the cctv with a dvr, we use the Poe systems as they are quite user friendly

Nest has 24/7 recording. Get that if you want that feature.

I dumped all my nest cams due to issues with Nest since the take over by Google. I've had nothing but problems connecting and recording with Nest. I would love to see Ring Cams with a continuous viewing. I wonder who we need to talk too . getting this feature.

Add a WYZE cam with an SD card and record 24/7.

It’s a doorbell cam not CCTV , wouldn’t expect them to ever do it.

I've a feeling it will come soon. Not 24/7 maybe one hour length recordings.

Not on a battery device. it would kill the battery.

Sounds like a question for ring, no?

Hell, id be ecstatic if my damn Ring Doorbell 2 would just show average quality video when some one is only 3 feet from the doorbell during the day, aka 9am. All I get is a blur with their color of their face. Such cheap quality equipment since the owner of Ring and his wife got rich off of this stuff. A option to record until the motion stops would NOT take that much more space. I mean think about it, past the 30 seconds they give, what is the average amount of time that there is motion? a minute or two?

@ingemar That depends. Look at it like this, most of the front doors where these are installed are behind the front yard. So when a person mowing the lawn moves back and forth, that recording could be extremely long because of the movement. And I have never had bad quality video on mine.

If they are in the back, id use the motion snooze setting, easy enough and as for yours, thats wonderful for you. I bought this thing so that it wouldn't suck. So as soon as possible ill replace this stuff, it is the walmart of security because that dude who owns the company got rich off of it and probably doesn't have the same mindset about it now. But honestly I don't give a damn for comparisons of other peoples equipment, that is childish

Probably never. 3 reasons. 1. For the battery devices would run flat in no time (then everyone would complain about that). 2. You cloud storage fee would then have to be based on usage increasing your monthly cost ( everyone would then complain of cost) 3. Your internet bandwith would be eaten up while it's uploading. Causing problems with all your other internet devices (everyone would be complaining then) Your NEVER going to get wired service with a wireless device.

@coronal a simple sd card feature would solve the cloud storage and only motion events would be stored on the cloud. It's really not that hard to do it could be a feature available to any wired devices and unavailable to wireless devices to avoid poor battery life.
