In the process of purchasing my mom The Ring Spotlight. I know there’s 3 versions: Battery, Wired, and Mount. Anyone have these products and can provide me with a review or insight on which one to buy? I really wanted the Wired, but it doesn’t disconnect from the actually spotlight and needs to be plugged in an outside outlet, and I find that to be a huge flaw on Ring’s part. Leaning towards the Battery, but there’s no safety measures in keeping the battery secure just in case. I plan on buying multiple, and really not interested in the Mount’s price point. Thanks!

I think you should go with the Ring Floodlight Cam then.

@marchall I have that and she does too for the driveway. The spotlight will be placed in angles for the backyard since she doesn’t want actual security cameras.

@marchall I need the specs of having camera view and siren. Thanks for the suggestion though. I might add these if I can figure out how they’re useful linked to the rest of our ring products.

@erminois I don’t get it when you say your mom doesn’t want an actual security cam then you want the specs of having camera view. I think the Ring Spotlight you mentioned is a camera too.

@marchall the Floodlight Wired you suggested is only for lights, no camera view. And when I say actual cameras, I mean like these. The ones I mentioned have cameras and siren. I just wanted reviews on which one others might have because set up is flawed on both the battery and Wired.

@erminois Most of these are Spotlight Cams, w/ 2 floodlight cams and a wired spotlight cam in the garage. The floodlight and wired spotlight cams give you more functionality with creating zones, while the battery spotlight cam has fixed zones but you control sensitivity. I use battery cam for blindspots where there is no power. I installed them w/ solar when I bought the house 5/2018 and never had to touch them since.

@commie thank you for more info. The spotlight battery, do you have any issues? Like getting a notification and checking it right away for it to lag and take awhile to show you live view?

@erminois I don't have notification issues. However, I do run 4 wifi mesh points to ensure I get the best coverage all around the house. They are equally responsive depending how fast you grab your phone, press the fingerprint to open it and access the live view notification.

@commie thats good! Honestly I’ll probably be attempting to set it up and the battery cam seems the easiest.

@erminois I haven't been disappointed yet. I had them for 4+ years now and still learning. There were some adjustments I made in-line with the updates that gave me the be reliable notifications, with no more false notifications. Just get used to it first before quitting. Takes time to really figure how it works. Installation is simple though!

@commie thanks for the reassurance. Most likely go with the battery one for easy installation.

I have 3 spotlight ones. Bought cables on ebay later and now they kind of hardwired. Works perfect

@varese5 I’m not as tech savvy  I know the battery ones have a solar panel option. But would you link me the items you’ve purchased?

@inseparable how long does the battery last?
by (2.6k points)
@varese5 I don’t think I have to worry so much about outages.
by (270 points)
@varese5 can be long can be short. A few days anyway. But it depends how much is going on and how many times its getting triggered. Also if you set the light to be on or off

@inseparable yes I find the same with mine. It’s all relative.

The spotlight mount is an awesome system if you have the junction boxes they go on.
by (2.6k points)
@lemur I just googled it. Is this it?

Tina, there are many different types of JBs out there. The mount is compatible with your basic circle and rectangle junction boxes. So if you have power there you’re good. Hardwired > batteries any day when it comes to ring products for your own sanity.

I have 5 wired cams I plugged them inside the house by running the cords through windows. I drilled a hole in the frame very carefully and sealed with silicone caulking. They work great and no batteries.

We put the wired spotlight in front instead of the doorbell. We ran the wire behind the siding. Then drilled hole to feed it to the basement where we then plugged it in. Much better than a battery one that you have to keep changing out to charge. Also the wired ones record longer. The battery ones record shorter amt of time to save the battery.
