Looking to get 3 floodlight cameras for our new house. I’m not too electrically inclined so I’d have them professionally installed. Not too sure about this, how much about will it cost to install each? I plan on putting 3 up on 3 sides of the house. Do they just splice into the existing electrical system? Thanks.

If there’s an existing light, it’s just 3 wires. Not electrically inclined myself either but I was able to do it myself. Lots of YouTube videos out there for additional reference in addition to Ring’s instructions. Just turn off main power.

@preoccupy no existing light where they would go

@breathless oh ok. Shop around for electricians. Depending on your electrical set up, shouldn’t be a major job.

If there is an electric outlet on the inside wall opposite of where you plan to put your spotlight then not too difficult.

@breathless I just ran the wires through the attic for the areas without wiring. And drilled an opening.

If you’re averse to a 3-wire installation just let the electrician know it is an exterior light replacement on existing electrical. You don’t even need to have the “smart-light” conversation as some will come in with an extra charge or setup charge in mind. Once it is powered you can 100% set it up yourself with a smartphone. The cost should be a trip-charge plus one-hour minimum, plus any additional time due to unforeseen wiring condition. An experienced electrician shouldn’t need more than 20 min per light unless they are in particularly high or challenging locations.

Oh - sorry. I missed that it wasn’t replacing existing lights.

@divest so if not replacing existing lights will it be much tougher?

@breathless - It will simply take longer as wires will need to be run to those locations. Thankspically houses have outside electrical lighting in place, so it’s a matter of what it takes to extend that for your purposes and choice of placement. Expect a time and materials situation. I’d suggest getting quotes in this case.

I got quoted for $80 for each floodlight on an existing outlet with materials included. (raceway, extension box, wires etc. )
