Need advice for a neighbor. She wants to put up a Ring spot or flood. She is renting and wants to take it with her when she leaves in two years. What’s her best option?

Where is she installing it? Over garage doors?

@telegraphese, yes.

@taffy if there is already a traditional (non camera) floodlight there connected to electricity, I would put it there and then replace the old one if she moves. The wired floodlight has better motion zone settings.

@telegraphese, I agree. We have one that we did that too but we needed to add a box for the wires so I don’t know if that will work for her. Thank you.

@taffy you’re welcome. It really depends on what she wants to capture on the camera. I have a floodlight that replaced the old style floodlight with no camera. But in my rear yard, we replaced a traditional exterior light next to back door with a spotlight camera mount model. That could also be an option for her. Same motion settings as the floodlight.

Check the rental laws where she lives. we have rental properties, and once you mount something, it generally has to stay. like a satellite dish, for example. be sure she gets WRITTEN PERMISSION from her landlord to install!

@mauromaurois, we’re in an HOA. Everything needs permission and the owner is agreeable. He’d have to sign for it.

I would put a flood light in and when she leaves put the old spotlight (if there is on there. I’m assuming there is) back in its place

If there is an existing Floodlight with existing junction box then replace with the Ring Flood light cam as the Flood Light is only available Hardwired. If there is nothing there but you can reach a existing outdoor outlet then the Wired Spot Light Cam is good and easy to move the last choice is the Battery Powered Spotlight Cam however you then have to change battery. When you move to a new location you do not know if that location will have existing wiring and junction box and if you would be able to have wiring added if you have a landlord. Spotlight Cam wired but then you don't know if there will be a reachable outdoor outlet. Kind of leaves the best option as the Spotlight Cam battery because of the unknown at a new location.

@daryldaryle, the two year plan was to retire to the home they are building in Tennessee so no problem there.

If there is an existing floodlight, I would choose the floodlight cam. Hard wired only. My first one replaced an existing floodlight, only took about 20 minutes. Battery operated you may have to charge or replace the battery. When considering solar panels, need to think of how much shade and light you get. May not be enough to keep you from having to recharge. Just some thoughts to consider

We got the hard wire and ran the plug from the top of the garage door to the plug that is on the garage door opener on the ceiling. If she did this she could just unplug it and take it with her.
