No direct effect on SEO that I can think of but I won't link to such sites and I'm someone who writes a lot of content (for myself and clients) that links to a lot of Websites.

@narcotize Sometimes you need to do this for content protection. We have this feature on some pages of our website where we put very high quality content which can get stolen easily. So we have to protect it from getting selected, right clicks on the page, copying and all

@inflationism Trust me - that won''t stop someone with a crawler from stealing your content. All it does is annoy visitors.

Someone who wants to copy, he will make it 99. 99%. CTRL+U and you get the page source with all the text. This way of content protection is just pure fresh air and only annoying for the user.
