I have a client that looks like he is getting clicks from a bot or something. I see a ton of clicks each day coming from Ashburn VA. Do you think this is something to worry about? should ip block it?

It's this adwords or organic? If adwords then you can try a blocker like clickcease. It seems to work pretty well.

Yeah I get those damn bots checking out my sites all the time. It's pretty annoying having to sift through their visits on my sites but haven't decided what action to take yet.

Ashburn is the land of data centers. I think 70% of the internet comes through Northern VA. Source - live here, am not bot. Boop beep.

I won't give an assessment on the location as there isnt enough detail for me to answer. However try this process and see where it leads you. Assess whether it is potentially hurting/helping/neutral take action if it is hurting. Some things to look for are: 1) Sudden drop in rankings that matches an increase or appearance of said traffic. 2) An increase in 404s 3) Scan site for possible hacks/malware 4) Look for odd pages for potential hacks (audit) 5) Insure you are using a security plugin which is correctly configured to deal with known spam blacklists 6) Check there are no tag, redirect image issues often created by plugins like yoast 7) Exclude your and owners IP from results 8) Backlink audit 9) Check everything is up to date: php, server software, CMS etc Counter measures can include: Setting up a WAF Blocking certain agents in robot or htaccess files Blocking IP or country IP ranges Limiting hotlinking
