What are some go-to SEO resources that are less obvious? Not talking SEJ, SEL, Roundtable or Google patents, but rather some hidden gems.

People only hate Neil because he’s a hustler then others jump on the bandwagon ‍♂️‍♂️
by (5.6k points)
@miletus3 No it's because he isn't an SEO and never has been and all of his stuff if not the majority of it is written by other people who know what they are talking about. He's a great marketer but not an SEO which is why he gets a lot of stick.
by (490 points)
We should all be like Neil. No SEO marketers that rank on the 1st page for thousands of high volume keywords.
by (1.6k points)
@stoops Without a doubt, he's got a great team, great marketing, a great plan, etc, etc. But @punchball59914 is right IMO, he is not an SEO. All of the money in the world and all of the rank that his team gets him, isn't going to change that. An SEO is somebody who actually performs SEO, he does not.
by (4.7k points)
I’m not a fan because his content seems to drone on and on.

I really enjoy @serpasil’s SEO Notebook What the AFF  ^ yes that’s my referral link I want to see what’s in the fb group lol But honestly the hidden gem is going out and meeting people. I’ve learnt more from my network that I could ever imagine learning from a course / blog etc.

Try to think for myself to be honest lol
by (3.9k points)
@punchball59914, that is irrelevant. Of course you need to think for yourself, that is not even up for discussion. However, I would expect you to still get information from several sources and THEN make up your mind, right?
by (5.6k points)
@sst Yes very true point taken. There's just so much noise in this industry I find it hard to even want to look at some of it. I get spammed every day in work from managers trying to look like they know something who constantly share stuff from SEL, SEJ, Roundtable or Moz in groups or from that bloody nuzzle newsletter. That I've just started switching off from it all.

Neil knows something though most seos ignore. Go run his site through Gtmetrix. com and it's flawless. Run digitalmarketer. com or billygeneismarkering. com and you'll see what I mean. Whole industry ignores that better website speed and performance drastically impacts SEO. Not complaining though, we outrank any campaign easily because of this "hidden" gem.
by (1.9k points)
This doesn’t exactly prove that, though. Show me the correlation between performance improvement and the score. I don’t think people ignore it, but I would say there is doubt about the strength of its correlation as you have stated it. We would all welcome more clarity around it
by (2.4k points)
Because it doesn't exist.
by (510 points)
@touchback for those that DO understand SEO you just made it blatantly obvious that you don't.
by (1.3k points)
Yet my company consistently outperforms any other SEO company on the industry. Light years ahead of all of our "SEO" competition. There is a solid correlation between user experience, performance, speed and ranking. As long as the industry fails to grasp this, just makes our jobs easier over here.

What's that woman who does the breakdowns of all the updates? I forgot her name and it's lost in the bookmarks but I used her a lot in 2018.
by (550 points)
@malefaction Marie Haynes? She’s great!
by (970 points)
Lol in every update she has 'tons' of clients implementing her "E-A-T recommendations" and recovering and even surpassing their previous traffic stats
by (11.4k points)
Brandon, is that bad?
by (970 points)
@malefaction Seems suspicious to me. That and the fact she became some kind of Google's spokeswoman have made me pay less attention to what she says. ‍♂️
by (11.4k points)
I found her very useful back then. BTW, how the **** does your company have 19K FB likes for a digital marketer?

Here is What I do: I optimize a few keywords and revamp content, design, navigation, technical portion of page, anything else, etc. And rank that page better than what it used to be. This way my Client trusts me and do not need proof of any change I propose. Why not do something they can actually see results and save yourself from wrong. I personally read all of them and I still do: NP, Barry, john Mu, SEORoundtable, SEJ, Moz, rankFishkin, etc. Personally I feel there is not much to learn after 2-3 years of learning. Now any thing new you just naturally come up with solution or strategies.

Stop trying to prove to other SEO's what works. Challenge them to a SEO duel like the rest of us living in 2020 lol
by (3.9k points)
@roadway, why an SEO duel? Why not a deathmatch?
by (5.4k points)
@sst death doesn't prove anything. A duel proves who's strategy works or works better.
