I can guarantee you, GUARANTEE, that certain SEOs are going to say it's about: 1. E. A. T. 2. Quality 3. It's targeting _______ How do I know? Because the same bunch says the same thing every single update.

@giordano82 I agree. That seems like nonsense. So if it is not that, what is the update all about?

I have no data but I think it has to do with local. mostly because many businesses aren't open or have closed. so there has been a major "flux disturbance " in their ability to provide accurate results.

Makes sense, but it's too early to tell.

@upshaw862 my 2 sites affected so far are not local.
by (740 points)
@nelsonnema93121 my organic sites saw a slight up tick. my locals seem to be getting more leads and calls via GMB.

I have 2 websites in the same niche that have lost all rankings. All dropped out the top 100. No penalties in GSC. A little worried right now.
by (450 points)
@lunate8067 well you are experienced and are an expert in that field of finance. So you should get that across on your site and across the internet. Then you should be ok in googles eyes.

Had a finance site. All top rankings dropped today.

@lunate8067 give it a few days. If you are new to GMB marketing, you may not realize that it fluctuates like crazy after an update. Let the algo shake out a few days before you despair. I've learned this the hard way.

@algicide all industries have been affected apparently.

@vivavivace284 I've got 2 sites that have totally lost all rankings. I hope you are right and my worry right now is not warranted :)
by (900 points)
@nelsonnema93121 1. It takes AT LEAST a month of data to be able to analyze what it targeted. 2. There is always fluctuation during a core update. There is literally a 2-week correction piece of the algo that goes in an tries to correct mistakes after the initial hit.

@vivavivace284 I feel a little bit better right now. Hopefully these bounce back.

It´s about dialing back paid ads and focusing on organic results to give users a better experience. Google has finally seen the light.

It looks like it’s lead Gen sites that were affected. My biggest observation is that sites with thin content or unnecessary content were brought down. Real websites and companies got a boost

"Does anyone have any clue what the latest Google May update is about? " The only correct answer to your question is "No".

One of this can include Schema Penalty. Most of the newbie bloggers spam their website with Product/Software schema and FAQ schema. After this update, I noticed that most of the sites (under 40-50 DA) got schema penalty. In my niche, every single website (Approx 80% of them) lose their rankings due to Schema penalty after this update.
by (460 points)
And it even not show any Manual penalty in GSC. You have to manually check if your website hit by Schema Penalty. How to check? When you search keyword on Google. It will show your post without any schema. but when you search your site using “site:” dork. it shows the same post with schema. This is how I got to know that my website get hit by this update. I also lose around 70% traffic but then I recovered 20% till now. Hope I’ll recover next 50% within a month.

@bergsonism1 And what if it does not showing schema in site: too
by (460 points)
@math656 If you’re Using Product/Software or any other schema on your post. It will show. And if it isn’t showing. use this tool () to check issue
