WordPress SEO and meta descriptions So usually I use Yoast to quickly add meta descriptions while developing a site, but with my latest build the home page meta description google is showing is auto-populated from headers and site text despite the fact I set it with Yoast. Any ideas what could cause this? Could something override Yoast on the home page? Meta descriptions are correct for the other pages but not the home page.

Yes, giigle sometimes picks its own meta -- especially if the site meta doesn't show the search term.

As @

said, Google can and will ignore Yoast if it doesn't match the term. I'm finding Yoast more of a pain than an advantage on sits my clients have it on now.

Well, that's not Yoast google ignores - from the algo's perspective, all it sees is plain old HTML: <meta name="description" content="Google please show this text and not whatever you scrape from my Web page">

Google does what it wants. To try to avoid it, keep your keyword in the T&D. But that's no guarantee. Also, it doesn't make a difference if you're using Yoast or otherwise. Google will still do what they want.

Is adding Image Alt Text to all the images on a website entail disadvantage instead of advantage, I mean what if Google sees it as over-optimization?
