Your favorite doorbell and why?

None. Rural middle of nowhere. My cameras alert me to someone coming up my drive. ;)

ReoLink POE dome and bullet cams. Using BlueIris as my NVR with some scripted logic that sends the alerts. My video and stills are dropped to a onedrive folder so I have offsite copies. Internet is an LTE router. All on UPS so when I have power issues, I still have a good 30-45 minutes before it all shuts down.

Oh, and as a backup, I have an ReoLink Argus hidden in a tree with the solar panel. That has built in notifications.

@cuccuckold I love my Argus 2 camera also, it's in a tree with the solar panel, never have to touch it, it just works. Only thing I don't like is that it's not compatible with Blue Iris or ONVIF DVR :'(

Before the "What are you paranoid about?! " crowd gets here. My neighbor lets his dogs run loose. They have killed my chickens more than once. I also had something stolen off my property in the first week of me owning my house. So yes, I am paranoid. I also am armed. Take that how you will.

@unalienable2277, my only issue is I wish when it woke up I could have it send stuff to blue iris. I am a fan of a single pane of glass.

I am thankful there is a thick run of trees between me and my neighbor. Recently he started keeping a slightly better control on his dogs because the Sheriff went over and flat out told him. "I am advising all your neighbors to shoot your dogs on sight. "

You might want to like into something like this  I have it linked into my Blue Iris servers to mark the alerts on the video as well but a musical alert when you are home gets you out there faster than a phone notification. BTW have the feral pigs made it that far north yet?

@cuccuckold Yeah same here but these guys are tearing down fences. On the plus side the seem to be driving the coyotes out of the neighborhood.

When we moved here we had 2 large coyote packs fighting over the area. We built a fenced back yard for our dogs (hog panel). After about a month of my akita doing his business back there, the coyotes stopped using our land to cross. Something about how he smells I think.

What is a good doorbell that is compatible with 3rd party stuff via ONVIF or RSTP? Can nest do that?

@gehrke Nilson and do you use the peephole to see who is there and the window to talk to the visitors? Ay night does it turn the porch light on ?

@gehrke no peephole. I just open up my network camera It’s quicker than getting up. All my soffit lights light up if anyone comes within 15ft of my door.

Unless you live in Mayberry no one rings the bell. Deliveries are toss and run.

Ring was constantly going offline due to power issues. Nest Hello has been solid.

I have a C# bell at my door. The clapper attached to a lanyard. It works awesome, people come to the door, they ring it, I can hear it anywhere I am in the house.

I have the Ring Video Doorbell 2, purely because it was free and I don't have an existing chime to power it so needed the battery.

Just an ip cam in combination with a doorcontact which I have soldered to a usual doorbell-button. In domoticz it’s easy to create a screenshot of the ip cam when somebody pushes the button. No commercial doorbells for me. They are easy hackable, and all information is going to places nobody knows.

I’ve gone DIY route. Dumb bell push connected to my smart home can trigger notifications, voice announcements, dome camera, lighting, etc. Connected letter box can do the same. This way behaviour changes based on who is at home.

Ring. Just does what it's supposed to do. Plus it's fun being away and answering Jehovah witnesses. Gives them a surprise. Tell them God is answering what is the problem

My non electric mechanical (clockwork in fact) doorbell. The only doorbell we have ever had which has worked for more than a year - been on the front door for 10 years now and can be heard all over our large early Victorian three story town house and even in the back garden!

I have the Google Nest Hello and I really like it but I am heavily invested in the Google ecosystem so it fits in nicely.

@sexdecillion837 Barnes are you using with google hub ? Can you leave the hub on constantly with doorbell feed ? Can you swipe to doorbell feed ? I know it can be set to display on bell push

@intervale yes, yes, and yes. I don't have a door bell so I bought a power supply from Amazon and now when someone rings the nest doorbell all the Google homes in my house announce and ding dong. I have 2 Hubs and they both switch to the doorbell camera automatically.

@intervale I've had one of my hubs showing the camera but I got annoyed by hearing the wind all the time so I turned it off but it had been on for a while by the without switching off. When you set your hub to view the camera does it timeout and then go back to the main screen?

I had Ring Pro and it was a crap. Nest doorbell is the best.

No, the problem I had with the ring doorbell pro was the power. Ring recommend to have a 24VAC / 20VA transformer, which my house does have one with same specs. But it never worked. Both doorbells I tried didn't make the hard reset to connect it to home. Very frustrating.
