Do smart bulbs with remotes exist? I think a dimmable smart bulb with a remote would work well for my 80 year old mother in law. Several times a night she wakes and goes to the bathroom, carrying a flash light. Can I set up a motion sensor with a smart bulb/ceiling light? I am currently installing zwave/zigbee switches in other rooms, but I am not changing the light switch in MILs room.

That's neat.

@earsplitting pretty sure IKEA stuff can be paired? Personally I use zigbee2mqtt and home assistant so they can be programmed to do different things. I have them beside our bed. Single click for bedside lamps on/off. Long click does the fan!

I am getting my first hub, tomorrow. Not sure how settings work. Could I program the remote to simultaneously turn on 3 lights - bedroom, hall, bathroom?

@earsplitting what hub are you getting? I only have experience with HA and with that its certainly possible

Online it says the remote can work with 10 bulbs. Might have to try these in an attic.

We use Hue bulbs and motion sensors on our hall stairs and landing. Never touch the light switch. Would this work for you?

@messing that sounds similar to what I wanted for the hall and bathroom.

@earsplitting only reason we don't have in the bathroom is because of the extractor fan. We do just have battery operated motion sensor lights for night time. Which work a treat. Loads on Amazon.

@messing I have some battery operated motion sensor lights in the bathroom, too. One as you walk in and one on the ceiling a ove the toilet. They work very well. Mine turn off too quickly, MIL doesn't quite grasp she needs to wave her hand to turn the ceiling light back on

@excisable712 we have similar type lights like that now and they dont give enough light in her bedroom. I was hoping for a full soft/dimmed light - from the fixed ceiling light. The light switch is on the opposite side of the room from her bed

Philips Hue, they have switches and motion sensors. You can pair multiple switches to the one bulb, so a switch beside the bed and one in the bathroom. It's also local processing so it's fast to turn on when motion is detected and works without internet.

@eucharist that sounds like what we might need. I will check that out. Thank you

Insteon can do this with and without a hub. The hub adds flexibility with ramp rates etc. of course you can also just talk to it as well via Alexa etc.

I bought the Hue Dimmer with a bulb for $35. They can work together without a hue bridge. If you want to do more, you need to add a bridge. I was buying them that way to add to my bridge I already owned because the dimmer switch was $25 on its own. So, for $10 more I was getting a bulb. I don’t take the remotes off the wall though because my 14yo daughter would lose them in a fraction of a second. We use Alexa for most commands.
